Hi there! I am hoping someone from New York or New Jersey is reading this who is a pro at laying down epoxy. I’m opening a cafe in Tribeca, NY and have tables that art work has been done on- now I need to coat the tables so they can be used for serving food and drinks on.
Casting resin allows a thick buildup without getting too hot from catalyst (hardener) and cracking. People can scratch it with coins and such but it is easily recaoted periodically. This is the cheap way to go.
SD suggestion is good…if you don’t want the resin fill to scratch easily you need a good hard clear coat that is scratch resistant…there are many available, but some of the best are pretty nasty to work with; like LP (Linear Polyurethane).
I suspect someone in the industry in your neck of the woods will jump on the chance for work. Good luck.
Please not that although this product will resist
yellowing better than other epoxies it is **NOT 100% UV
resistant**. Continuous outdoor UV exposure over
months or years will cause the finish to lose its
gloss and cause gradual changes in color.
I like automotive finishes for the UV resistance. Also you can print out on rice paper (fine art) then lam it into the tables. Epoxy tends to discolor Artwork. However the finish is suitable for bar tops and tables were lighting is dim. For well lit areas UV becomes an important factor. The same problem with EPOXY surfboards is the yellow factor.
