I use PC…are you sure you have the most current version of APS?
Yup, the option to make a pdf pops up for me, but that looks to be more like a spec. sheet, I’m trying to print out a full size template of the outline, profile, and each of the slices (making a hollow wooden), is this something you guys have been able to do? I have what I think is the most current version of APS, 1.13. Thanks
The PDFs that APS make a basically vector files that you can open in drawing programs like Illustrator, Corel Draw ,Freehand ect. and scale up to the size you want. Since they are vector based, scaling up in size doesn’t affect the resolution. You can then take the file to a copy house like Kinkos and have them print it for you on a plotter. The PDF file format has become pretty ubiquitous and a lot of CAD programs can also open them now.

see the option that says “print outline full sized”…
…click that.
and see the options directly above and below?..click those, too.
that should give you everything you’re looking for.
Johan,
When you save the full size print outline to .pdf are you not getting 10+ separate pages in the resulting file? I gave it a run and I was expecting to see a single page with my continuous, complete outline. My goal is to print on a wide format printer and have the outline ready to go (no taping etc.).
I realize that I can use Illustrator but I am trying to save a step and use only one application.
Thanks!
Try adjusting the paper size and see if that helps, setting the length of the parer to more than the length of the boards should give you the outline on one sheet if you have an banner printer that will print on a roll of paper. Even if printing on several sheet, make the margins as small as possible without loosing any in the margins, some printer will print to the edge of the paper, some won’t. My printer do not support paper rolls, so i never got to test this. Anyone know of a brand/printer model(preferably a multi purpose printer with scanner) that support this in the drivers, please let me know.
Those print to pdf drivers are in general crap as java does not see that you changed the size of the sheets.
Hey ras_jahn.
I’ll tell you what I do, but this is all done on a Mac. I have played around with it on my bro’s PC and couldn’t get it to do the same. …There might be someone here who knows PC’s better than I.
There are 2 things that I had/have to do. The first was to create a ‘custom paper size’. I have a choice of papers in my ‘print’ window pane, I just went to cutsom and made one that is 24" x 96" and called it surfboard. After that I just have to choose it from the pull down menu. note: I have tried a sheet 10’ long for a longboard template and had problems fro some reason. I figure that I will have to use Illustrator to make a flip template for that.
Once my custom sized paper was created; before I print from APS3000; I have to go into my system preferences, the ‘printer and fax’ preference pane, and then de-select my printer. In fact telling my Mac that I have no printer connected to it, otherwise even with my custom paper size it splits it up into many pages.
Once that is done I get a pdf that is one big sheet with my outline, or profile on it. Off to the printers.
There is a small bug, after making one print out, I have to close APS3000 and then re-open it, otherwise I get a blank page the second time.
Hope this heps you out.
most Canon printers support banner printing, even the very cheap ones. but yes, it is sometimes a fight to tell them what you want and they are all different.
there is paper on a roll available for kids drawing paper. it is $ 4 for 30 meters. any office shop will have it. cut the approx length before you feed it in the printer, otherwise it will not stop feeding till the whole roll is through.
I have also succesfully used the endless, folded zigzag paper (how do you call that stuff??). take off the perforation and feed it in the banner port of the printer (the amount of sheets you need plus one).
you also can use architect plan paper, available on rolls and in different weights. the heavy stuff is great for templates.
if you have to glue sheets together, do it against a straight edge (or a fairly straight wall. forgot who posted this trick before but it works well).

I have parquet floor in my house an line it against the boards when taping it up. Might work for a tiled floor too… ![]()
Even when using rolls, beware that the printer may distort the image. Often the paper does not move straight through the printer. This can be seen when printing, the margins will be different on the top and bottom of the page. This is very often seen in fast laser printers.
If you have a wide format dot matrix printer, try this link to the APS300 forum, now AKUSHAPER forum. I can print any planshape up to 56cm wide on continous paper.

The article gives a step by step explanation for printing with a wide format dot matrix printer.
I’ll check tommorrow to find out if your having trouble.
