Need help with D fin template

Can anyone here help me with a template for a D Fin?

I was able to find a basic measurement in the archives of 8.5" base and 8" height.

How much rake?

I have no experience with D Fins, honestly I’ve never even ridden one. But I want

to put one on a Hollow Wooden Longboard that I am finishing up.

Is it proper to place them about 2-3" from the tail?

Chris

A couple of pics before Chip asks.

…the proper place is IN the very tail, not 2 or 3 up…

but D fins are not so good like the other fins

looks better than the performance obtained…

Hi Riddim -

Beautiful board! Please check your email. I tried to send you a scanned template of an early 60s Hobie “D” fin.

John

Send me your address and I will send you a Balsawood D-Fin with Western Cedar stringers for free. I just made a bunch of them for some Balsawood boards I just layed up. You will have to do your own foiling and glassing. That is if you want one? I have a extra one.

That’s the coolest thing I’ve read in a long time. GOOD ON YA SURFDING!!!

You guys are great. I have printed the template John. I’ll cut one out of some 1/2" cedar today and start learning how to foil fins.

SurfDing check your PM’s. Thanks for the offer.

And Reverb I’ll take that advice. On the tail, not a few inches up. Performance is not really an issue, because I have never really been a very good longboarder. Just do it for fun.

Thanks to everyone including Swaylocks.

Sounds like you’re set with a fin but here are some more templates for you and others to use.

D1- 9 1/8"H x 8 7/8"B

D2- 8 5/8"H x 10 1/5"B

D3- 9 3/4"H x 11 3/4"B

I currently ride a 9’-3" pig with the D3 template all the back on the tail block.

Thanks for posting these.  Huge help
