need help with fish "pics"

Need help with the fin placement of this board, i was thinking of a twin fin set up with keel fins the keel fins have a base of 6.75 and a height of 4.5. The Boards Dim are 5’11 1/2 x 15.75x 20.5x 16x 2.5 the nose rocker is at 4’’ and the tail at 1 5/8., the board has a single slightly increasing from nose through out the tail along with a slight double. i was thinking of putting the keel fins at 8" up from the points of the swallow and a 1.25 off the rail with 3/16 toe in and 4 degree cant. Does this sound right? Suggestions welcome I have pics added also to help-thanks

that’s very close to what I’m doing with my fins and I like the ride. Mine are just a touch more forward and have a little longer base though.

josh,

I usually line up the rear edge with the top of the but crack. For me that is typically 6 to 6 1/2 inches from the tips and 1 1/4 inches off the rail. 8" sounds too far forward, but I have not tried any that far up. I like the fin you have. FCS? If you glassed on the fin and didn’t like it you can just grind it off and move it. Routing out the holes is kind of final in terms of location. Lots of info on keel placement in the archives, too. Mike

The fins are actually fins unlimited with a fcs base, the butt crack on the swallow i believe is at 3 1/2 deep. so you think i will be better off placing a 6 1/2 what should i do about toe in and can’t.

josh, I didn’t realize how shallow your swallow tail was. I do my swallow cut 5-6" deep for my retro fish so my experience with fin placement probably doesn’t apply to your board. the pic in my avatar is a 5’10" w/ 6" swallow crack.

Hey Josh,

I think Rooster’s numbers are good. With the shallower tail you may want to try about

6-1/2 up. Also point them in slightly, like 1/8" or less.

I’ve shown these before (sorry) but the boards seem similar:

Except for the tail span, I made mine a little narrower to hold into juicy waves. Here it is

in action:

Get psyched!!!

Let us know how it goes.

I’ve always placed my keels right on the position of my back foot which seems to work for me (makes the keels feel like an extention of your leg), so the bigger the board the further up they go!
