Need help with router/switch gone of the res.

I have a Craftsman router which is not fused. It crapped out on me this weekend. I went online and got the schematic and accessed the switch and the contacts had a lot of carbon build up. I cleaned them off and attempted to reassemble the switch. Long story short, I was unsuccessful. I’ve contacted Sears regarding a replacement and they are no longer available. My question to you is this; Have you ever encountered a similar situation and used a generic switch? Your comments on sources, success, and post-replacement longevity are much appreciated. Thank you one and all.

Beware the ides of March

I've used toggle switches from Home Depot on a router before.   Worked fine.    You can also rig an inline switch on the cord too.

In a pinch, I have hard-wired/bypassed the switch on a power tool. Then, you use a power strip with a switch on it. With the right strip you can use it as a footswitch. YMMV.

The ides of March - of course! That explains this knife sticking out of my back.

If we can believe recorded history there were ca. 28 knives used.

Any switch will work provided it will fit in the tool. Most switches get dust in them to block the contacts. Sometimes if you have an air compressor you can try blowing out the workings and "snap" the trigger a few times. Problem is when this happens it usually means the life of the switch is coming to an end. Wood Ogre's reccomandation is the best I've found. They also provide exploded views which are quite handy. While you are serviceing your tool, replace the brushes (source of carbon build up ) and blow out the armature. Good Luck.
