Need help

Hi

I hope it’s ok that I ask this here…

I am just starting to ride shortboards, and I bought a used 6’6" Channel Islands thruster that’s 18 5/8 and 2 1/2, down from a 6’10" ‘big guy’ shorty. I’m 6’0 and 195lbs. When I went from a 7’6" funshape to the ‘big guy’ board a couple months ago, I instantly became comfortable and happier on the shorty. But going from the ‘big guy’ to the channel islands board, I am still not totally at peace with it after 1 week. Paddling and catching waves isn’t a problem (although my arms are a bit sore), but I feel that possibly the board is stalling more easily on turns than I’m accustomed to. Is that just a fact of life on this size board or is it my lack of skill? I’m not sure if I should try to find a similar board with 1/2" more width possibly or just stick it out on this a while longer.

Thanks a lot for any advice, and sry if this is in the wrong place.

Lack of width is the culprit.

You can apply more wave to the equation, but if you insist on surfing what you got, you need to add about an inch in width.

If you were surfing Lani’s/Chuns/Jocko’s, your board would be fine.
