Don’t wrestle them, you both get muddy but only the pig likes it.

sorry, couldn’t resist, was an old friends favorite saying.

I’m looking to get a pig shape for San Onofre. I’m considering the following shapers: Michel Junod, Bing (Calvani), Fineline, Hobie (Terry Martin). If anyone has any input on pigs, specific or general, I’d appreciate hearing it. Size? Shaper? Fin (Barn door or swept flex, etc.) and placement? Rails? Concave? Thanks in advance for your advice.

If your going to have a pro shape the board like Cavani, Phillips, Martin… why the do you need our input? Are you going to tell them how to do it, If you currently have a pig shape then your light years ahead of us? Maybe bring in your old pig and have it copied of improved…Everybody loves a new and improved PIG. I’d put the order in with any of the above shapers, and stand back.

No here’s my 10 cents on the pig shape. Get a shaper that has been making board since the 60’s.

No go forth and squeel…Pig man!

Can pigs be bashed too?

Do you use different tools for that type of job??

Just wondering…

Resinhead, your use of binary and hatred of seals keeps me laughing on the other side of this screen…

Pigs are great for slop, mushy, non steep waves, are alot of fun cause surfed right, they plow thru and trim in that stuff, meant to be turn off the rear, and then “walked towards center for trim”, not really a noserider, but the old time skeg can really hold in…I’ve had a Dennis Murphy Pig (more modern), but later got a Donald Takayama Pig (old school) I could whip the Murphy around a bit more, but the Takayama rode so much different, it glided more, it was glassed volan and a big skeg. Since your down in the area check them out. I think they need to be on the short size of length 9’2 ,9’3, and 9’4. Check out the Seedling, Eric Sommer is riding one in a segment … Pig ON!

Somebody keeps editing my seal posts? It might be the Underground Seal Movement (USM). I think Swaylocks might have been influtratituede by a member…Or maybe I’m just paranoid.

I saw my buddy Seal Bite Steve last week surfing, it seems his scar is improving, and he now has full mobility of his leg… it’s been over a year, infection, skin graphs, and 100’s of stiches. But i now fear the worse…he’s a different man now, it might have been the altercation, or maybe the pain of the months of rehab? Anyhow, he has the look of revenge in his eye.

I think i have another crew member…and Swaylock’s can’t stop me.HA,HA, HAHHHHHAAHHHHAHHHHH.

Oh right Pigs…I digress. Sure you can hate pigs too i guess? But I have a special place in my heart for pigs…I mean right next to my stomach, and the BBQ. I prefer pig smoked: 1) marainate with dry rub for 12 hrs, 2) smoked for 8 hrs with apple wood chips, 3) served with a vinegar based sauce. Make sure you flip the pig every1.5 to 2 hrs in the smoker.

Must not forget that the transition boards ,notably Wayne Lynch’s Evolution Board, were of the bacon species . The dimensions taken from the Quiksilver collection card are

Lenght ; 8ft

Nose ;161/2

Middle ; 22-difficult to tell where wide point was but i would say 12’’ from centre and would be 23’’

Tail ;20’’ rounded pin with a touch of squash

thickness 21/2

V in tail and 11’’ fin

In outline it is very much like the Velzy Pig - its even yellow

I have a modern version of this board narrowed down -only 21’’ wide with a diamond tale - and it works great.

cheers

The Lance Carson pig is sick!!! I currently ride his classic pintail, but I have an order in right now for a pig. 12th floor foam and glass is another really good option. Not only do they do work for Lance Carson and Gene Cooper, but they also have connections with Ben Aipa. They just opened a factory in Garden Grove. You can’t miss with 12th floor or Lance Carson.

I didn’t know Lance Carson made a pig model. Do you have any pics (or point to a web site that does)? I’m only familiar with his classic pintail model, his powerglide noserider and traditional square tail. Maybe you are you referring to his traditional square tail model?

Thanks,

I know he has pictures of the pig model, they are not up on the website yet. I saw 2 that were glassed by the guys at 12th floor about a month ago. In fact his website guy has 1, I saw him at San O and he was really happy with it. I have both a 10’6" classic pintail and a 9’6" power glide. Next is the pig. Lance’s # is on the website. Give him a call, maybe he can e-mail you some pictures. Ask him about the Balsa he shaped about same time as the pigs.

Doug

This is my pintail.

my power glide looks just like this except it is red on the bottom and rails.

Thanks. Looking forward to seeing Lance’s Pig. I’ve always loved his boards. I’ve owned a few in the past but none right now.

GET A MICHEL JUNOD!!!

im 14 and spent a year and a half saving for a custom board from Michel Junod.

-IT WAS THE BEST DECISION OF MY LIFE!!!

His boards are magic…he has anything from a huge nose rider or an exact copy of a vintage board.i got the two tone board(one of his personal favorites)and i love it!its a total pig but it is as good as a arrow nose rider but the turns are even better.Hes a great guy, very friendly and will figure out what kind of board you want in ten minutes. He knows what he is talking about.i would totally recommend getting one of his boards!!!

CALL him and he will tell u prices!

for sure...

Just stumbled on this thread.  Here’s where I’m at with pigs. http://cooperfishcalendar.com/blog/?cat=46  I like the pure mid 50’s design with dense foam, plenty of curve behind the hips, and the fin hanging off the tail.

I’m hooked on these shapes again, the early pigs were a simple yet thoughtful design.  Tons of fun.

Most pigs have the glass on D fin.

What would work good with a box?
