so this is my 2nd HWS its a 9ft 2 redwood board its just under 9kgs right now and will get a layer of 4oz top and bottom, will just have a single fin setup
cant want for the cloth and glass it show up in the mail and get going on that will put pics up went started
hey heres my fin. its not glassed yet i will be putting in a 10ich fin box and will start it 7 1/2 inchs up from my rounded pin tail
the fin is 7 1/2 inchs tall its my 1st try at making a longboard fin so thats partly why the fin box , as i do not know how it will work. I also want to be able to move it around to tune it in . also if its no good i can put an FCS fin instead
Hey mate, i think i see an imperfection in the wood that is characteristic of the jealoushackitis disease found in timber, send it to me and i'll dispose of it hehe
hey i have resin now and just go done with a cheater coat and plan to lam the bottom tomorrow after work, happy as to finally get resin on! . that kinetix resin seems real good cant wait to start the lam
hey i was wondering I put light coat of resin on to seal the board on bottom tonight and planned to coat the top in early morn before work, will i need to let the resin fully cure and then sand before the lam coat or can i lam bottom tomorrow after work? bottom cheat coat will only have been on for 20 hours
Be warned I have had real problems with Kinetix and it flaking off if the previous layer if it is not sanded and scrubbed.
It seems to be good resin but has bit me in the ass too many times now (8 of my Kinetix boards have major or developing adheasion problems - they show up later when the board flexes or grow from small impacts into large delams )
Sand and clean it, white scotchbrite all shiny areas
Dont believe those who say that you can lay down a fill coat on the tacky lam either.....had problems with that too.
I know that others havent had the same problems but so far I would only use Kineix as a last resort. Gemco is a little better but has very similar problems - also it is brittle and does not have much flex. Tends to shatter like poly when it fails.
Good luck, Hope Im not too late with this advice. It looks like a nice board , shame to ruin it by cutting out a step.
hey cheers guys for advice, i played it safe and scotch bright and sanded between cheat coat and lam got the bottom and top all done, plan to fit the fin box tomorrow and then put in the roof of the house for a few days to post cure ( poor mans oven, dark colored roof hot hot hot in summer)
so its all done had about 10 surfs on the board and happy as surfs well and good out on the nose. I was washing off after last surf and thought i should post pics of finished board.
