New board - how long b4 surf

I just finished my first board…a 6’1’ round nose fish. Lam job was about a month ago, hot coat 5 days ago. I’ve heard new boards need a cure time before they should be ridden…Any feedback?

I really think its mostly the glass you have to worry about, if you can sand your hotcoat, yur good to go. I’m curious, how’d it work, waiting that long for the hotcoat? Did it come out clean, or can you see the weave?

Really! That quick. We’ll thats just what I wanted to hear! By the way, I can’t see the weave at all. Deck is 2 x 4 oz. bottom 1 x 6 oz.

If it is standard Ortho polyester resin, it is useless to wait as it will only crosslink so far. The whole “wait for 3 weeks” is an old wives tale. The only way to get a higher rate of post cure is to post cure the board at a very precise time at a very precise temp. Or use UV cure initiator. Sluggo

Depends on the surf…always!

Well the waves were good so I surfed. And the board is sooo fast! I’m so pumped after all the ups and downs of building this thing…It works!
