Well, shockingly, the new board does basically what I wanted it to do … thanks to some quality engineering of my own and some sound advice from people on this forum, I was having a blast in head+ waves at Moss Landing today. Made some drops steeper than I’ve ever made before, and got up to my feet successfully. Also got knocked down and worked over big time more than once, but I had a blast and this is a perfect board for that kind of wave (for me anyways.)
I did get whacked in the head with it once on a major set wave wipeout … but thanks to my Kevlar ™ reinforced rails, there was no damage (to the board … and I think my head’s OK …)
Here’s the finished pics. Not perfect, but considering what I started with – close enough.
Nice job, looks like a real wave hog. The tie die is sweet. Congrats on making the big drops.
Glad you head is okay, unlike my good friend this morning who planted his face into a coral head. He was a bloody mess. And his board took a good beating too. Guess it’s a price we all pay at one time or another.
Yea I was humbled today myself after paddling out at Moss Landing in a triple OH swell … figured I’d be OK closer to the jetty where it was only somewhat overhead to double overhead … but the current was phenominal and I couldn’t escape it. It drug me back toward the jetty and then straight out, and fast. Ended up paddling back toward the other side of the harbor to try and get back in, but before I got past the South jetty one of the tow in boys came and bailed me out. Nice guys. Sucks they’re trying to ban them though.
