new board suggestions

I’m having a new board shaped. It’s 8’6", swallowtail, 22" wide, kind of a speed shape I guess you would call it. Any suggestions on glass weights(6 oz., 5 oz.,…)Also, on the fin setup, I was thinking a single fin box with the smaller side fins, just don’t know what size. Thanks for any suggestions!

Personally I would go single however that is not what most would do. A 2+1 setup that you were talking about would be good. And 2x6oz top and 1x6oz bottom.Josh.

Don’t forget an additional tail/knee patch of at least 4 oz, as big boards dent really easily at the tail deck area.

Fin sizing depends on tail width and rider preference. Under 13" tails usually don’t need side fins, unless it’s a semi or full gun.

I’d think an 8’6" board with a swallow tail would ride really stiff, but be good for fast, point type long waves, if you like to trim and run. Pearling and sticking front rails while bottom turning can become an issue, as the length plus width at the tail block lifts the tail, driving the front rails downward.

Yes, centered 10" box and side box’s that can handle 6" side fins.

Thanks for the info. I going with the 2+1 for the fins so I can change sizes and experiment. I just don’t know how bigger center and smaller sides and vice versa affect performance. As far as glassing, are the different weights the same kind of cloth, or is the cloth makeup different? Thanks again!
