We have developed a new Jig specifically for doing foam installs and more specifically for doing installs on EPS blanks. Our vaccuum jig has trouble suctioning down to EPS foam lighter than 2.5 lb. It means you have to either spackle your blank, or install the boxes through the lamination and before the hotcoat. Not anymore. This Jig works basically the same as the Futures Jig. It has non-skid on the underside and is very stable on foam. Two stage rout. Instead of the donut for the router you just switch plates. The new kit will be about half the price of our current Jig, and comes complete with a laminate trim router, with bit installed and ready to rout.
Edit* Rainbow will ship you the jig to try out for 14 days. If your not happy or don’t want to keep it for whatever reason, send it back to Rainbow and you’ll receive a full refund minus the freight. If you like the set-up you keep it and contact me here or at lokbox@sbcglobal.net for technical support. You can order them here - info@rainbowfins.com
We are still trying to suss out the best router that is readily available, but for now we are using this one -
hey guy’s just to let you know – I have been guinea pigging this jig for awhile now ( hundreds of boards) and to tell you the truth, I think I even like it better for pu/pe boards. you can hold the lightweight router in one hand while changing plates and the jig fits into deep concaves nicely, also balance is really nice when routing narrow tails.
as for eps make sure and do mutiple depth cuts when routing stringers depending on their width so you don’t over heat.I have a system of marking my router with little scribes for stock depth as well as ones for deep cons and my shallow passes.
Very cool. I’m getting ready to do a couple Lokbox installs too. Haven’t been on swaylocks for a while and the first time I bring it up there’s something I need to know about!
Stinkbug, they will be contacting you if they haven’t already. Sorry for the delay but Rainbow was sorting their pricing for everything that comes with the kit, and a price that doesn’t include the router.
#1 Non-vacuum Jig/router kit. Comes with Jig, router, installation fins, tail thickness gauge, and fin angle guide. $250.00
#2 Non-vacuum Jig kit. Comes with Jig, installation fins, tail thickness gauge, and fin angle guide. No router, but we do supply the template guide and router bit. $161.00
We recommended the Rigid R2400 router and it is available at www.homedepot.com
You can use any other router that accepts template guides.
Demo program - Purchase the full Kit w/router and try it out for 2 weeks. If not satisfied, return in same condition and receive a full refund minus the freight.
I’m still in the process of creating a detailed set of instructions for this Jig, but If you guys contact me here or at lokbox@sbcglobal.net before using it, I’ll walk you through it and help you avoid damaging the jig or the plates, so that if you do want to send it back you can get the full refund. Thanks Jim
I have the Dewalt DW616 with the plunge base but wondering if it might be overkill for the jig, maybe better/easier to use a trimmer? IIRC, I used this same router to install LokBox using the vac jig (borrowed- thanks Bammbamm808)
Does anyone know, will the Ryobi tr45 trimmer (the one that comes with the Futures install kit) accept a template guide?
