Not new in the groundbreaking sense, just newly made. Anyone see any obvious flaws before I use it on my new blank? Other than the chunk I took out of the tip that is. I’m using a USBlanks 6’5" A.
Looks about right. What are your dims? I just finished making a template for a quad fish and what really helped me to envision the overall plan shape was to trace it out as a full plan shape on something so I could tack it up on the wall, stand back and look at it. After I traced out the full plan shape with my template, I was pretty happy with it, but could then clearly see that I wanted to bring in the nose width and curve a bit as I wanted this one to be a little less retro and little more “performance” oriented. I couldn’t really see that with just my template alone - my shaper’s eye is not experienced enough.

Thanks Jim. It’s going to be 6’4" x 22W and I think it’s 12" tip to tip. It’s a Big Guy Fun Fish! I’m going to make it a quad as well and probably with double bump/wings. I was checking out a guy’s Pavel speed dialer at the beach this morning - will do something like that.
I’ve also drawn them out full size - someone on Sway’s suggested using chalk out on the driveway - that works pretty well.
I’m doing something similar only it’ll be narrower at about 20.5. Also double bump speed dialer-type.
The chalk on the driveway is great - I have kids, I have chalk, I have a driveway. The neighbors will know I’m working on a board.
I have been shaping lots of fishes lately all have equal noses and tails. Many of the young crew are getting 5’6"s 15x20.5x15, 2.55, the 6’0"s have been 16x21x16, 2.65-2.75, for the old crew 6’2"s and up usually 16.5x21.5 to 22x16.5, 2.75 to 3.00. All are old school keels and twinzers. Saw a great old school template 4 fin the other day. The guy loved it. Might have to make one.
