New Guy

Just wanted to say "Hey" to everyone, I am new to the forum and completely new to surfboard building. I have enjoyed reading through some of the older post trying to soak up as much knowledge as possible. If anyone can think of any older post that is out there that would help, please feel free to give me a heads up. Also any books or videos out there that would help me out, I'm all ears. And thanks for all the great information that you guys share on this forum.  Thanks

dang chrisp you’re fast.

Here is a thread I wrote with the beginner in mind.  It has lots of pictures and some little tips.

Great book:

The greenlight surf supply videos are informative, but Shaping 101 and Glassing 101 are really good. Also if you’re into epoxy (which is essential if you glass in your aprtment’s garage) then Greg’s epoxy 101 shaping and epoxy 101 glassing videos are great resources.

search this:

“surfboard design and construction 1977”

epic logo Hang20... that one had me laughing. good thread too...

surfboard design and construction book:

click the link above, then click on one of the links that Doc posts... they should work

Wow, Thanks for all the information guys. Looks like I have some serious reading to do today, hopefully work will be slow so I can. Also I wil check on some of the books mentioned. I already have both of Greg's epoxy videos, all three of the John Carper videos and Surfboard Shaping & Design by Pravda. I'm kinda an instructional video junkie or at least that is what my wife tells me all the time. Once again Thanks for your time Guys.

REB, How does your coast look? How bad is the F#$%^&*@ oil ? How has it affected the area and townfolk?

It is a mess and with hurricane season in full swing that makes the S#^t that much more depressing. There was a local charter boat Capt. that committed suicide last week. I'm in Chicago at the moment and due to go home in a couple of weeks. I'm going to try and take the wife and kids to the beach when I get home. I'm just going to head east along the panhandle  and try and find some good clean water for us to enjoy while we can.
your not southern are you?
Yea about as far south in Alabama as you can get without being in the water.

Hey REB, one suggestion.

If you see a link that has tons of usefull info, bookmark it!  Make a collection of links and name them: “Board thinckness, Fins, etc…”  I’m retarded and can’t find anything in the search here, so i started bookmarking the killer links packed with info (even highlighting some info) and that is great for personal referrence.  Otherwise you might spend hours looking for one thread (if your like me).

Other than actually touching the foam, this is the best place to gain knowledge.

And if anyone has a collection of links they would like to share to resources on Sways…
