Hey Soulstice - any word on a Walker distributor on the East Coast yet? I know it’s early but maybe someone has heard something? I work near the Clark warehouse in Melbourne, and everytime I pass by and see the sign I just shake my head … we had it easy didn’t we? Can’t wait to shape a Walker … Happy Holidays to all …
i’ve been asking, and haven’t heard anything. i’m about ready to break down and pay the $150 to have blanks shipped from California. Argh…
Soulstice - I’d go in on an order with ya but I can’t glass the blanks I have now - just bought a house, Christmas, etc. Last time I talked to Joe @ Walker he suggested that I could piggyback an order with Pat O’hare and/or Natural Art since I just wanted a dozen or so blanks. I can’t wait to see how all this crazy stuff shakes out - I just hope Walker comes up with blanks as good as the 8’9"B Bruce Jones plug, or the Yater plugs. Or the Harbour, or the Wayne Rich, or the Madden, or the Edwards, or the new short retro blanks (Pavels were great!) … their old catalogue is kinda thin, eh? Sheesh, they have their work cut out for them! Good luck to ya, I’d be happy to go in with folks on orders in the future if no local warehouse opens up. Here’s a toast to a New Year filled with waves and blanks!
yeah, the published catalog from Walker is a little thin, but i heard they’ve actually got more plugs than just what’s printed. besides, it seems they’ve got all the bases covered. the 9’8" and the 10’3" both look great. and the rockers don’t need much tweaking if any. i really liked the 9’9"W for it’s classic shape and rocker, but the Yaters were waaayyyyy too flippy for my taste.
toughest thing about shipping is that they only put 3 blanks in a box. so for $150 to ship a box, the breakdown really hurts the ol’ wallet. with Clark’s warehouse so close, if i didn’t want to drive to melbourne to make a pickup, they’d ship up to 16 blanks to my door for a flat rate of $40. i’ve got a buddy down here that i could go in on an order with, but to only get 3 blanks to divide up, i’m not sure it’s worth it. i wish i had the moulds for the 9’9"W and the 10’3" sitting in my garage. i don’t really have any idea how to make a blank…but i’d figure it out.
… Wow no wonder Joe advised me to piggyback! Jeez, hope someone opens a distribution warehouse or everyone’s gonna have to chip on a boxcar full! You’re right about Walkers longboard blanks, O’harers ride unreal and he’s been using them forever. Of course he IS one of the most underrated shapers ever! And a nice guy to boot. So’s his kid Sean. Anyway, good luck and like I said before - Happy Holidays to all! ps - if you start making molds, let us know, ok?
Man,
You need to get your shit straight 'bruddah". NO ONE TAKES SHOTS AT KOKUA.
He embodies the very heart and soul of this community.
Just type his name in the search field…

Wow Manoa, you of all people shouldn’t be talking about Hawaiian spirit or karma or anything like that. Maybe you’ve forgotten already how you replied to my post awhile back? You know, the one where I asked if anyone on Oahu had a shaping space they would be willing to rent? You acted so enthusiastic about helping me out, said you didn’t want any money for using your space, but I was welcome to use it anytime, and your tools too! I was so excited at your kind offer, so much more than I’d asked for or even hoped for! You acted excited about helping a budding shaper out, gave me 3 phone numbers so I could reach you at any time. Then a couple days later, when I was supposed to come meet you and check out your shaping bay, you suddenly change your tune, giving me some excuse about your wife being pregnant and not wanting fumes. Kinda funny, because you knew she was pregnant before you ever told me I could use your room, and you knew I was going to use EPS and epoxy (not really any fumes there, bro), and your shaping room is separate from your house with a first class dust-removal filtration system you kept bragging about. I might have bought your b.s. story except when I pm’d you back and said that was fine, thanks anyway, best of luck on your new baby, and asked if it was your first, boy or girl, etc. You never even replied! Thats when I smelt a rat. If you changed your mind about sharing your space with me, at least find the balls to tell me the truth, don’t lie about it. By the way, how’s your fishing board coming, since you quit shaping for you wife’s health? Bet you finished it up with polyester resin already. And now you’re trying call out Kokua for not having Hawaiin spirit? You’re so full of sh*t, man.
What da Fu_k. satorisurf, I never backed out using my shaping room. Our schedule are much different! I never rec’d any phone calls from you…in fact! The first time you where suppose to come over! you called last minute, to tell me you gotta do something with you friend? I was waiting, my wife was hungry! I held up, The stuff between Kokua and I is nothing…remember this is a forum…for everybody to chat, I’m not bashing anyone.
I can understand if Kokua shape/glass for a living, but this is not what he told me through a private email. I even offered Kokua my Clark Foam 1st quality blanks for free! for free!
Even if Clark had a “monopoly”, he was going to close shop soon. And if he indeed had monopoly, the govt would have done something by now. From all the gossip…Clark Foam only had 80%, which according to regulations/LAWS is 5% shy of having a monopoly. Clark did his math and marketed very well, thats exactly how the rich get richer!
I’m not bashing Kokua…just trying to let people see the other side of things, we can place that energy towards other places.
Like I said many times…many more PU blanks will be available and cheap. It may not come now, but it will.
if Longboarding did not come popular again…many shops/shapers/glassers would not be here today.
Don’t get so worked up, just because you didn’t get to use my shaping room/tools etc. Its still available!
most places charge lots of Kala (money) or won’t let you use it at all. Life’s to short to be upset about small things like shaping “One board”!
My fishboard is still in progress…soon to be finished! I believe you knew that as well as my wife’s pregnancy?
Good luck Satori with shaping/glassing your board, hopefully you may find someone who’s not full of Sh_t!
Happy new year !
Carmine-----------Alot of you guys have been overstating the particulars concerning Clark. Monopoly is not the word to use. You are obviously of the mindset that anyone who is successful and corners a large share of a market is somehow a “Corporate Crimminal”. There were at least five historically “known” foam companies that have either been around since Clarks’ beginnings or that have appeared over the years. I don’t care to recite history, but the players over the years have been; Dave Sweet, Greg Noll, Foss, Rogers and Walker. I can not vouch for the rumor of threats directed at those who used other than Clark Foam. Maybe you know these shapers personally. I do not. I do know that here on Maui there are several shapers that use Clark AND Walker and have used both for some time. I have dealt with Fiberglass Hawaii here on Maui and in Santa Barbara over the years and have never heard of ANYthing to substantiate such rumors. But such stories make for a good “Post” I’ll give you that. Problem is we’ve heard that tired old story many times and it has yet to become anything more than “surflore”. I agree with Kokua that it was certainly selfish of Clark to leave so many people hanging. I am waiting to see what shakes out for myself personally. The demand for PU is still strong and I believe someone will eventually fill the void. Clarks snafu is that he made a superior product that had high demand and could be easily customized to meet the needs of almost any customers’ specs. Anyone (walker included) could have came along at anytime and perfected such a product. The simple truth is in “supply and demand”. Clark produced a product that had high demand because of its’ quality, availabilty and price. Walker and others have a lot of ground to gain before they are up to speed. McDing
Howzit drew, Not to worry, Manoa and I have no problems with each other. Like he said this is a forum and we are allowed to speak our minds. We did some PM’s and worked out any differeces and he even offered to give me a blank. so don’t give him a hard time he’s a good person and knows the meaning of Aloha. Aloha,Kokua
Kokua aloha! great guy!
what! used only epoxy…It still will have toxic airborne chemicals (no smell). In fact, satorisurf, you told me that you didn’t want to shape/glass your board at your apartment because of smell! Well shape/glass your board on your lanai, no smell with the new epoxy resin. Hotwire your 1lb density eps, no dust? or even minimal amount of dust.
I never rec’d any emails regarding any of the above questions? or even calls regarding when you can shape?
If you read my thread “fishboard layup help” you can see how long it has been, and I told you over the first phone call…“only after I finish my projects” referring to the fishboard!
So, why I ask…the bitter taste?
And if you need to shape “one board” so quickly…then say so! Hopefully, you did not promise someone a board. I even helped you find where to get all your supplies and what to ask for! You would have never have found blanks…other than what Home Depot sells.
Sh_t no bad Karma on my end, its been only one month regarding any shaping of your board. If you own your own surfshop…custom orders take time!
To get mad over “one board” for someone or yourself? There’s no rush to finishing something that you will make for yourself or give as gift…but, if you are selling to someone and made a promise! Then don’t reflect the hate to me, I’m always here to help!
Hopefully, you may read my messages and Kokua’s responses and understand the hawaiian ways, and take the helpful grace with you and your military career!
I’m sorry if you have deep hate in you…aloha & a hui hou!
Manoa, I was a little irritated with you for lying to me before, which is why I wrote the original post. Nothing even close to hate or anything like that. I just don’t care for liars. I saw your first reply and was a little peeved but not surprised that you continued to lie. I considered replying, but thought whats the use, this is a public forum and not really the place for personal squabbles, no matter how minor. So I decided to let it go–that is, until you decided to post again with more lies! Why would you want to do that? I guess you’re hoping to discredit me on this forum. So, only to reveal the truth to anyone who cares (probably no one), this is my final post on this subject. I am attaching the final pm I received from you, where you kindly tell me where I can buy EPS, and then clearly state that you are not shaping anymore until your baby is born, out of concern for its health. This is the lie I mentioned in my previous post, the lie you told me because you changed your mind after offering to let me use your shop and your tools. Remember, I didn’t ask you for that, I even offered to pay you, but you insisted on letting me use your shop and tools for free. I couldn’t believe I’d met such a nice guy. Looks like I was right, it was too good to believe. Attached is the pm I received from you, after days of your not returning my phone calls, after you, not I, cancelled or just wouldn’t answer your phone on numerous times when I was supposed to drive up to your house and meet you and see your shop.
One last thing: its your shop, you can do whatever you want with it. If you changed your mind about letting me use it, thats your prerogative, no hard feelings. No reason to make up a story about not shaping until your baby is born, then post a month later with pics of the progress you’ve made on your fishing board. Be a man, tell the truth, and if you change your mind, say so, don’t make up b.s. excuses.
Dude! what lie?
read your own post regarding using/renting shaping space.
I clearly said, after I finish my fishboard!
my question to you:
Is my fishboard finished?
Soon to be finished, and leave out my wife and her pregnancy! Dude when your girlfriend/wife should ever get pregnant…you will do everything possible to help with her healthy progress. It’s pretty obvious, that you don’t understand pregnancy or my best wishes…there no lie. Its my wife and my unborn child.
All the glassing/sanding that went on…was during times when my wife was out of the area for long periods.
Where’s the lie? why would I lie…my wife is pregnant!
Are you mad because you had your hopes up? and I’m taking too long to finish my own projects? I don’t understand??? and where/who/what/how is this lie tied to me?
I seriously think you have me mistaken.
To place things/words/feelings aside, my shaping room/tools etc will be available for you to use.
aloha
