New Surfer's Path #61 (July/Aug 07)

There are some interesting features far removed from standard commercialized 'er, 'ing stuff.

A Canary Island, Gabriel the solitary Baka (pygmy) surfer, “Wire” from King Island, Dave Rastovich and Richard Matthews are all profiled.

Richard Matthews is a guy in the Phillipines making EPS/woven bamboo composite boards by hand. The article shows a crew of young locals hand splitting and weaving the bamboo. Their oven apparently consists of a board with a series of light bulbs. In one picture it looks like they’re using a rocker table… Very jungle tech and very Swaylockian.

No mention of Gary Young but the technique looks vaguely similar.

Anyway, one of the better surf magazine issues I’ve read lately.

love surfers path----didn’t get the new one yet----DID however get the latest issue of the online mag DRIFT vol 1 #3—not done it et but thats another fersion of our sport thats worth a look----(bouncebacks@driftmagazine.co.uk)

Wasn’t Wire profiled a few issues back in Surfer’s Journal? These same stories seem to make the rounds at the mags. I recall the same thing with Da Cat awhile ago.
