New to the Forum - Surfboard Selection Advice

Looking at a 7’0" round pin-tail, 13" (nose), 21" (center), 13.88" (tail), 2.67" (thick).  I’m hoping this isn’t considered a semi-gun??  I’m interested more in a all-around shortboard that can handle smaller stuff to head high+.  I’m not in the water much when its multiple times overhead, and wouldn;t need a board for that.

I’m 6’3" and roughly 205lbs.  Surf mostly beach break, point break in the Monterey/Santa Cruz (CA) areas.  Any help on the semi-gun question appreciated.

Cheers!

Any more thoughts?  I Was doing some browsing on the interwebs… Most semi-guns seem to max out at 19" in width, regardless of the lenght.

A 7’ x 21" seems too wide to be a gun, i’m hoping.

Hi, welcome to Swaylocks.

Can you post a pic? 7’ x 21" seems kinda semi-gunish to me but it’s tough to tel without a pic.

Agreed, I was also thinking possibly/maybe/semi-gunish.  I’ve attached a picture.

If the picture is too small, you can get a better idea from their website:

If you’re in SC go talk to Doug Haut, Steve Colleta, Bob Pierson, Junod, Coffey.  There are a lot of great board builders there.  If you want a builder in Monterey PM me and I will get you the number for an excellent builder here.  Why spend 450 on a Surftech?  Mike

I do like the outline on the Surftech, though.  That shape is a step up board for many guys for surf a couple feet overhead or bigger.  I’ve ridden similar boards in smaller waves, however, as long as the surf has a bit of punch.  Mike

Thanks Mike… I’m familiar with the Monterey shapers. Bispo for the most part.  While I would appreciate their advice, I’m not looking for a specific surf craft, just something that will do the job, but not a gun.

The surftech board is actually going for $280 through another website… Seems like a reasonable deal.  There’s a similar 6’2" x 19" squashtail, but I figure thats a wee bit short for me.  Aaron.
