NOt really, but after finishing my best looking board yet, with a nice airbrushed design on the deck… My wife asked if there was a clear wax that would show the design through?
So here’s the quest for all you wax/chemist/gurus out there… come up with a wax that can be sprayed on, is clear and is not abbrasive to the skin or wet suit!
Any takers! Comments?

search for “Hula Dek” …just roll it on, permanent traction, totally clear.
i want to make my own home made wax this sounds like a good challenge.
From the archives, not written by me
Basic Surf Wax Mixture: (Melt together at about 100F) 60-70% Paraffin Wax, 15-20% Microcrystalline Wax, 5-10% Petroleum Jelly, 5-10% Adhesive (Vistenex) Small amounts of Scent and dye. The amount of petroleum jelly and wax needs to be adjusted for the water temperature in your region. If the Temp is warm in your region use more wax and less petroleum. If the water is cold use more petroleum and less wax. The Microcrystalline wax and Vistenex give it the “stickiness”. Watch out it can get real messy.
And the competition, Roy’s au natural wax
3 parts beeswax 1 part coconut oil (for warm areas)
3 parts beeswax 1 part coconut oil 1 part tree resin (for colder water)
Have fun, don’t make a sticky mess. You can start with beeswax and add any oil to soften it, the more oil, the softer (more cold water suitable) it gets. Baby oil (pure mineral oil) and beeswax should get you pretty close.
the Au natural was what i was looking for. sweet. thanks.may be add some honey to give it a sweet scent.
i dont know about the hula deck suggestion i had one on the nose of an old longboard. the stuff is sticky. but i imagine it would tear up your skin.
it does tear up your skin…definitely have to at least wear a rash guard with it
