- what can you tell me about the surf jet board, i was told 1970/71, company is from california, i want to know if the year i was told is correct, if it is a rare board, and what did it cost new bitd(not expecting and answer for this Q)
and this board, i was told it is a 1983/84, and that the company is out of florida, also want to know if dated correctly, common or not, and what it cost new bitd.
thnx for any help
Surf Jet was a Long island, NY company. From the hard to decipher photo, it looks like it has the 2nd gen Fins Unlimited box. I would date it 1969 or '70.
Google the name “Jeff Bushman” for the other one.
Wrong ID on the fin/box. That’s the first version of Fins Unlimited. So, very likely to be 1969.
Also, what does “bitd” mean?
I forgot to say that the board is somewhat rare, as very few were sold. That doesn’t mean it’s worth very much, though. If the fin is in very good condition, it probably has more value than the board. Many collectors of true classic boards are in need of original fins to complete them.
Is the fin removable? What shape is it in?
bitd = back in the day. i think the fin is not removable, just one screw for the leash, i do not have the board with me, it is at the beach house, i think the fin is in good shape, the body has no dents or dings in it, just some minor scrapes on it
The first FU fins had one screw at the back. They were ALL removable. It was NOT intended for a leash, since leashes did not exist back then. I’d be willing to bet that fin is supposed to be removable. Whether it can actually be removed after so many years is another question.
