Newbie here: Moving to Southern Oregon. Anyone around there?

Hey new guy here, take it easy on me please. Moving from the Middle of Nowhere Washington to Southern Oregon Medford/Ashland area. Still two hours from the coast but closer than I am here in Washington. I haven’t surfed in 6 or 7 years. Got married, had kids, got divorced, you know the story. But since I’ll be a short trip to the coast, I’m definately going to start up again. I’m still (relatively) young… 30 ish. This is something I’ve been thinking about for years now. I built my own board about 12 years ago, with the help of my uncle in Santa Rosa (he’s the one that got me into surfing). Gonna buy a used board after I’m moved in, then maybe set up shop in my garage and start on a new one. I’ve got most of the tools as I’ve built a couple of small wood/epoxy/fiberglass sailboats as a hobby here in Washington. Surfboards are much cheaper!!!

So if anyone out there is from the Medford/Ashland area of Southern Oregon, I’d love to hear from you. Or if anyone knows of any nearby (mellow) spots on the Southern Oregon/Northern Cali coast, where a guy can knock the rust off on the weekends, that’d be cool too. I’ve never surfed this area before. Thanks.

Hey J.D. - I’m up north in Newport, don’t know lots about the So. OR. coast, and, if my map reading memories are correct - I’m pretty sure the closest beaches you’ll be getting to are in Nor Cal… plenty good waves in the Crescent City area… Good luck.

Yeah, thanks Taylor. I was checking out Cresent City and Winchuch beach just north of there. I’ve got family in Santa Rosa and San Fran, that’s where I’ve done all of my surfing. It has been awhile though. Newport’s nice, I’ve been there a few times (not to surf though), stayed at Otter Crest by Devil’s Punchbowl. Anyway, thanks for the reply. Take it easy.
