i’m stumped. actually, my board is stumped. ok, both are true. i’ve never repaired a board, let alont built one, but would like to try. i’ve recently lost the nose off a 6’6" Matt Kechele mix fish, and was thinking to just round the nose off (now about 4 inches wide at the base of the injury) and glassing over it.
problem one: i live in a city, and thus don’t have a garage. all i have is a friend’s balchony on which to work.
problem two: as mentioned before, i’ve never glassed anything. ever.
so i ask of you, o gurus, is this possible? is it smart? what would i need to accomplish such a feat and produce a watertight, not-too-ugly board?
No worries, chris. You found the right spot to ask.
Problem one, solved - if you have room to sand abit, you’re ok.
Problem two, solved - amigo, there was a first time for us all. Just search the archives for tips and, here and there, videos of how it’s done, and you’ll befine.
And - rounding the nose - okay. I would first sand it flat, 90 degrees to the stringer/centerline, and then round the edges a bit and there ya go. You will need some sanding stuff ( archives again) and glassing knowledge ( those ol’ archives) and you’re set.
Any questions, well, don’t hesitate to send me a Private message and I’ll see what I can do, ok? good. Go for it
