Hi Guy’s
heres my next board to build
Customer wants an 11’ retro gun, thick and wide as possible
prefribly a 70’s Brewer shape
I ordered a 11.3 D blank with a gun rocker glue up. Its 27" wide
I have some #'s but not quite sure
n14 w21 (8" up) t12.5 this is a LB gun outline
or
n10 w20.75 (8" up) t9.35 This is a retro gun outline using 10’ length
Im thinking somewhere inbetween, A little help would be appriciated
heres the blank
With the help of Handshaper I came up with these dementions
11’ x n14"x w24" (7" aoc) x t13" x 3 7/8" thick
I skinned it and cut and trued the outline
I will get back on it later (my arms are tired)
best pics I can do,sorry
Did up the rails and tapered the deck to the tail
And of course the infamous beak nose
Your thoughts…
Aloha Ken:
Now that looks sweet! I think you made the right choice with the numbers. Look forward to seeing it finished.
-Robin
thank you Robin
John Mellor had sent me a PM and also shared some photo’s
I dont know how often you make these big gun’s ,but I tell you My arms and shoulders are tired
It took me about 10 hours total to shape this thing
I may spent a few more tweeking the rails to add belly
I willtake a rest for a few days

Very nice, drool!
Is it going to have a big red glass on single fin?
For big boards it takes more sweat and power tools.
Keep up the progress reports.
sorry to be OT…but thats a nice XR in the background!
I had a street legal xr-r that was stolen after a month of ownership…keep yours in that garage!!!
best bike ive ever owned. hands down.
Thats a pretty beak also…hope you find some waves to test that thing in!!
no greater appreciation
than dipping your ‘‘I wanna’’ bucket
into the deep well of personal effort.
when it’s done it will be worth every
drop of sweat, dew on the lip and brow,
drips fron the eyebrow,soaked t-shirts.
and when its done disgusted yer capacity
to forgive your human flaw and call it quits
done finis the meger filthy lucre wont equal
the wave that it connects the sections.
Only then will the wage for making the board
seem remotely adequate…
…ambrose…
only then can ya dig the big price tag on the
$12-$1600.00 guns that should be $3000
Aloha Ken:
Try shaping a 12’ 6" balsa gun one day if you want a real workout!
That is why I love shaping big guns because not only do you get to do something that is really fun and rewarding, but you get a free workout as payment! Best way to stay in shape that I’ve found.
-Robin
sorry lavarat
no red, maybe blue or clear or both
this board will get black tiger stripes with a blue flood coat
wraped 3" to the deck pinlined with light blue, clear deck
sg80

How ya doin my friend?
I dont think the family will be able to make it to your Island this year (monies tight) maybe next year.
I swear when I was doin up the rails yesterday, I felt I was spiritualy connected to the blank.
It was like making love to a beutiful woman, I couldnt take my hands off her but exhaustion prevailed!
Robin
someday I would like to do a chambered balsa 12.6 I dont think so!! LOL! maybe 9.6
After doin one of these, shortboards are gonna be a walk in the park.
Hi Ken -
Great job on that board!
You can imagine the horror (the horror! the horror!!!) I felt after I templated the blank for a friend’s 12’6". The deck crown was started by slicing off a couple of long wedges with an angled hot wire device. I think at this point it was 5 1/2" thick right to the edge of the rail. My elbows ache just looking at it. LOL

thank you John
your feedback is always welcome
Thanks again my friend
I played with some resin colors yesterday and this is basicly the color scheme

report, Fast, paddles great, easy takeoffs and turns on a dime
lots of complements
one bad thing, fin humm at speed, I will knock the leading edge of the fin down a tad ???
also the board slid down the side of his van and damage occured befor it ever got wet
