Next board ??? You help Choose, I build

OK,

I’m ichin to do a short board,

I got a 6’6" blank , so I’m thinking a 6 footer It will be PE/PU construction

I may play with some colors but not sure yet (it all depends on the board type)

And I do want to keep things simple such as no fancy bottom contours

But…

What shape?.. I dont know…

A Fish ?

an Egg?

Swallow tail?

Squash tail?

Square tail

round tail?

Pin tail?

Bat tail?

New School?

Old School?

1st ,I need help to decide what the shape will be… For those of you who wish to help…

Please attach pics and dimensions to this post

2nd,I will lay it out post pics then shape it and post pics

3rd,We will decide what fin set up will suit the board

4th,We will decide the application method of color (or may leave clear)???

5th,Me paint and glass and polish

6th, Sit around and drink beer ,trying to figure out what to do with a board I wont ride…

Anyone want to play?

My vote would be to copy as exactly you can a current swallow/fish type board in your quiver (or one you have access to), but fill in the butt-crack (squash or diamond tail), and see if you can tell the difference…

I’ve always wondered if the fish got lots of it’s acclaim because of looks more than an actual difference in feel…Chipfish may know the answer…

JSS

JSS, I think this is that question: “Do release lines and planing surface matter?” I think they have to, by definition.

EDIT: read as “inboard release lines” – becomes more of a question

I like dimond tails, if you have’nt got the witdh in the blank do do a fish, consider a widow maker or a single fin.

dark tints top and bottom with a clean lap no pin lines and a gloss coat look super sexy but are hard to do well.

I dont think any 2 answers to your post will be the same though, maybe you could narrow it down at a few designs and run a poll, count up the votes.

6’ 0" egg 17 X 22 X 16 down railed single finner

I like the swallow boards, they look cool, some length, nose and tail dimensionsnwould help

anyone ?

Hmmmmm!

An egg I like egg’s

I used to have a G&S egg nice board!

Hello Kensurf ,

Sat Sept First I’m headed north on Hwy 5 with a friend I met on Swaylock’s. We’re going to a party in Laguna Nigel. “Hey let’s call my friend in San Clemente he lives just off of the freeway”. Stop by my friends house. We have a beer and to our surprise the neighbor gets a Brand New T Patterson Egg hand delivered !!!

Well… were up stairs on the balcony and they are down stairs. I know he said it was 21 inches wide ,I think 6 feet long. Looks like a fish template with a round nose and a round tail. No swallow tails ! Glass on keels with a small tail fin in the center. Wow! I can’t get this concept out of my mind. The tail was fat but the curves were nice…

Think about it

Ray

Ray

thanks for posting

Ya Egg or swallow tail

thats what I’m leening towards

but I need some #'s and pics to go with

satisfy your curiosity.

build em all…

wOOt!!

dave

eventualy I will build em all

so far I got

Egg 6’L x 17"n x 22"w x 16"t wp at center

Swallowtail 6’L x 12.75"n x 19.25"w x 15"t w 2" deep swallow wp at center

What do you want it to do? Small wave preformance and easy wave catching ability? How tall are ya and how much do you weigh?

Make a biscuit!

Their like ridding a skateboard, super short, super flat rocker, go anywhere on the wave, punt, slide, etc reallly easy.

Im 5’8 160 and I would ride a 5’2 x 19 3/4 x 2 3/4, pretty round nose and a ‘thumb’ tail I think. I think AM Runs a flat into a vee but a really light single would work too…

Eric

I dont plan on riding this board

I just want to hone my skills and make something short

preflibly a shape that is well liked by the mass’s

Oh ok, I say rocketfish then! 6’0 x 19 1/4 x 2 1/4 x 12.75 nose x 15 tail, Nice swallowtail, Something like 6" wide 2" deep, no bumps hips or wings with a low nose rocker.

I added to the list

I need to know the widest point in relationship to the center of the board

Leave it in the center, WP forard is for retro boards. Make it a Quad aswell?

Im leaning toward the egg

I need to pull down the blank and check width to see what I can actually do with it

why are the egg #'s wider that the swallow tail #'s? ( @ center width)

An egg is kinda like a short funshape. Wider, thicker etc, Where as Im talking about a high-preformance small wave board.

Ok guys

I shaped her up yesterday and tonight

The blank wasnt wide enough fo an egg so I went with a modified swallow tail fish

She actualy has a nice outline and down rails nose to 2 thirds down then hard from about 14"

to the tail tips

heres the #'s

L 6.0’

N 14"

W 20.5"

T 16.25" with 3" deep swallow

2.62" thick

My home puter is F’d up and Im using the wifie’s wich is too good to accept my cheepie floppy disc so I

will post a pic tomarrow from work

Edit and here it is

What is a good simple bottom contours for this board

right now I have about 3/16" concave in the mid section fading to flat in the tail

rails are down troughout to hard at the tail

can I leave it as is?
