No EPS at my home depot.

So I goto my home depot store near my house looking to buy some styrofoam insulation blocks, and spend like 20 mins trying to find it on my own until i give up and ask one of the worker guys and he says they don’t have that, but they get asked that alot. I live in pearland texas, which is near houston. Anyone know of any other home depots that carries it? I’m gonna check lowe’s tommorrow.

Its hidden back with the insulation if they have it. Half the employees at my HD don’t know what’s going on. The other half are very helpful.

First of all, they don’t stock blocks, they stock sheets 2" thick, 4’x8’. And 1" thick.

Possibly your HD doesn’t believe there is a need for sound/heat insulation. Go somewhere else.

Most HDepot employees know nothing at all, especially where stuff is stocked.

I assume you went to the home improvement section, next to the R-13 rolled insulation.

Maybe i’ll go there and have another look, I went to the insulation section and saw all these fiberglass insulation stuff, but that was it. And some of that pink and yelllow w/ foil really really thin panel deals. But didn’t see any eps. What section is it in, and what kind of stuff is around it? Anyone from houston or my area tried it yet?

Kinda hard to answer your questions with any specificity.

Home Depot has a standing policy of changing the location of it’s products at least once a month, depending on the manager’s wishs.

Our two local HD are always in the midst of evolution, and most employees don’t know because they are stuck in one departement or another, and don’t have free reign to roam around and help everywhere.

Look at the first two posts after your initial one, and you will get a clue as to where to look and find insulation materials for home building.

its by the wood and stuff like that over here in florida. i went a few times to the depot and they didnt have it. i am almost certain that they probably stock it and if they dont just go to lowes.

Hi richie, I had the same problem. I found 2" eps at lowes in the insulation isle. Only stocked 3/4" extruded at hd. However one day I noticed 1 hd had 2" xtr. I was told to go to a commercial insulation company, didn’t get there myself. I have seen it on jobsites though. In nc.

Enjoy the process.

yep, I just got back from lowe’s and they had the insulation eps but they were like 1 inch thin and were 1 x4 ft. Went back to home depot and talked to the contracting service guy to see if he could order something and they said that they didnt have anything on the computers in our area and that he would need a vendor or something if we were to get them ordered. Looks like we got no 14 dollars blanks here in houston.

next time your at the depot and they dont have it ask when they get there orders in. usually they dont stock a whole bunch of it and it could run out really soon. i have gone a few times on order day in the late afternoon and it was gone. i think its kind of hit or miss thing trying to find it.

I was told you can get up to 4"x4x8 at commercial supply they use this insulation in commercial buildings apparently.

I haven’t tried myself, The truth is you have to look good cause the paople there don’t know and they always move it somewhere else. I find it in the plywood section and the insulation section. I did find some 2" eps at a building supply.

Richie, would appreciate if you would let me know if the commercial supply works.

good luck

Bob’s Foam Factory in Fremont, CA has 4’x8’x6" panels of 1# EPS. Also 2", 3", 4", 5". They also rip it for you - I got mine cut in 4 12" wide pieces - for free. So if you’re in NorCal, that’s a good bet. If you’re anywhere else, at least you know the stuff is made. Its all from Insulfoam.

in the SoCal stores (both lowes and hd) I have found it it has been in/near the lumber sections. It is stocked upright so you see a section of verticle/side view sheets of 4’x8’ in different thicknesses. Ask specifically for InsulFoam.

sometimes it is laying down.

go to lowes.com and search for insulfoam.

if it comes up you should be able to order it online and mark it

for instore pick-up (that is what I did).

look in the phone book under insulation. You’ll find there the place HD gets their foam from. You’ll be able to buy in in the right size for building boards and it will actually be CHEAPER than HD.

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET! I looked in the phonebook under insulation like you said, and found insuldyne.com. They got eps foam and even fiberglass cloth there too. They are cutting me a 2ftx8ftx5in piece for 20$. Not bad!
