No harm in asking - glassing question

I guess you don’t get what you don’t ask for. I have come to the conclusion that I suck at glassing a surfboard. I have shaped a handful of boards and taken them to get glassed, but the last two boards I have shaped I have tried to glass myself. Royally screwed up on the first one and the second board came out less than stellar. I really want to get better at glassing my own boards because I love the craft of surfboard building and the feeling of accomplishment. Would love to meet up with anyone who knows a thing or two about glassing/sanding and maybe get some tips by watching them do a board from start to finish. Whatever hands on help I can get would be greatly appreciated. I am in the North Orange County area. Obviously, I will work around your schedule and bring the brew of your preference. Thanks and Happy Turkey Day.

Hope you find a mentor, nice offer to bring booze.

Not yet. I can add pizza or burgers to the booze as well. Hopefully, Food + Beer = Mentor.

Glassing is not easy, takes more than two boards to figure out. You’ll start getting the hang of it after about 10. Trial and error, trial and error. Are you working with epoxy or polyester? I’m on the westside of LA, glassing in my garage, not a pro but your welcome to come by sometime. Maybe talk to the guys at Aloha Glassing, next to Foam Ez. They’re close to you and would probably let you drop in.

where are you in north OC

Sweet! Thanks for showing interest. I’m going to send you a pm.

You’re right. I know with time I will get better, but I get bummed out when I spend all this time perfecting a shape only to screw it up during the glassing portion.

For Ken, skip the booze and food, bring your cute sisters  = - )
