Back in the mid 60’s, a friend gave my dad a blank. He reshaped it then glassed it. He didn’t know that laminating resin stays tacky, so the board sat around for a very very long time unfinished. I don’t recall that it was ever finished.
OOPS !
--it happens !
…been workinha on the cookie…it’s coming around…lots more work to do…too much… it should been in the water right now…it’s going to be at least another 3-5 sessions till it even close to done…
…I really like this board for some reason…it has a real appeal to me…dunno even why…so I gots to finish it… or at least kill it all the way dead, before I can move on.
it’s coming around …and now for bedtime…see ya…
hahahahhhhh [finally I can laugh about it …now , 8 months later , that is !!]
thanks , hicksy !!!
…oh maaan , that was even WORSE than I remembered it ?!
And there was dear young Rachel congratulating me on “a good glass job”…, and me too self-proud / upset to put up that pic …
mate , we can learn MORE from each other’s mistakes , I reckon !
“surf4fins” …that meltdown photo is …incredible ! …you poor guy !!
were you able to rescue that at all ? (or did you scrap it ?)
what happened there , exactly ? [if it’s not too devastating to recount…I know that it took me time to get over the “red resin waterfall” on my “bushfire fish” , don’t worry !]
cheers !
ben
[so , anyway , Herb …
WHERE’S your photo/s …c’mon mate , don’t keep us in suspense , PLEASE !!]
it’s the board rack ready to go to the landfill. I’m keeping it around for a bit to remind me not to get too cocky! Too much time and effort to fill the gaps and $ in epoxy to re-glasss.
Needs sanding(minor at that) …and boxed… some curing …and in the drink it goes.
…photos then , please Herb ?
[pre-waxing …no , the board , NOT you ! cheers]
ben
Botoxes tomorrow,abit of crappy epox-sandying…
…Can you feel it ???
…The Dice are Rollin’ !!!
heya Herb, I ran into two friends of yours surfing Church Sunday. Your brother was in the water somewhere, didn’t get to meet him. Nice guys.
I was paddleing by and saw what looked like your logo on this board. Sure enough, it was a Spitzer!
That reminds me of an eposide of Beavis and Butthead, when they find a dollar and want to buy gasoline with it ,but don't have anything to put the gas in...............…So they find a styro-cup and pour the gas in it.
…LOL
Hehehe.
Was reading this thread and this had me thinking of a cabinetmaker friend of mine who used to work in the R&D department of a local boat manufacturer , he once told me how all the old guys at the shop would initiate the new young employees. They would hand the newbie a styrofoam cup and tell him to go get some acetone for them.
Been breaking my ass on the " Supercharged Marine Spitfire/Predator II " It’s for the most part… done… and for whatever imperfections are there… the strength makes up for it,by far…I was slugging the bottom side, hard! Hard enough to take skin and I couldn’t even leave a mark on it…I won’t even try that on the deckside…If I would have done this to My poly short/or even a gun type board, they would have been toast !
I calipered the thickness and it’s at 3" and weighs in at 11.25 pounds…Heavy on land …by my standards…but I like the way a heavy board with high boyance works for me.
We will see what we will see…
pray for waves…
In my dad’s machine shop he work at in Huntington Park(1960s/70s).As a Sweep boy…They use to send me on wild goose cases for things like lefthanded monkey wrenches, and muffler bearings… to name a few…
Herb, I’m sure you can find most of those tools here: http://www.kalecoauto.com/
I bought an automotive wiring smoke refill kit. You know, when you let the smoke out of a wire and have to put some back in
I watched a show on the welding channel the other night and they had some newbie with a spray can, told him to shake it until the rattle stopped. It was pretty funny, after about an hour they told him it must be a defective can and so start over with a different one… which he did…
PS Benny when I let smoke out of wires, there’s not much wire left afterwards.
herb , PLEASE can you post up shots of the finished board , now that you have had a few months to recover from the initial shock ?
cheers mate !
ben
Please Herb?
