Ive shaped a few boards and I want to shape some wooden boards, I don’t want to make hollow boards because of the higher change of making a major mistake. Would I be able to use pine planks to make a board? Im thinking of a 10’0 nose rider type board and I don’t think float will be to much of a problem since I’m 120lbs. If I can’t use pine, what is a good price for balsa and a place to buy planks in southern california?
Pine is heavy for a solid board, really heavy.
I have a 6’9" southern yellow pine alaia that is only about 11/16 thick and it weighs over 14lbs,
Even with a lighter variety of pine, it would be 12# or so.
A solid but 2" thin pine longboard I think would be about half your weight.
Balsa or hollow would be better than pine imo…
