I am seeking recommendations for companies offering computerized machine blank shaping in NorCal (SF Bay Area or Santa Cruz). I’d like to get an occasional blank shaped for my own use.
I believe doug haut has a machine at the NHS warehouse. He does cuts for various local shapers.
best to contact him at his shop on Swift st.
Go to shape3d or Aku shaper page.
Look for page of machine locations, email prospective cutters, appear professional, ask ‘how much’, mention you do onsies, twosies, but dont mention your not in the business or you need their help or advice or that this is your first time.
Present yourself as a slam, bam, thankyou mam, kind of person. I.E. keep the email short and price oriented.
Some or a few cutters dont want to get involved with the onsie, twosies amatuers at home. So dont tip that off.
Once your foot is IN with some of these people, then its not an issue. Hopefully you’ll find a machine you can use
convenient to your location.
After you get a price, then its usually just a matter of
emailing them a file to get it started.
Matt Ambrose has a machine out at Oyster Point in South San Francisco.
I’ve brought him two of my APS3000 board profiles that he cut for me that I later finished and glassed and finned.
Fun stuff.
Nutty: I have been in Doug Haut’s shop so thanks for that lead.
Otis: I think I will be ok talking to machine owners. The worst they can say is no. I have been on both websites. Shape 3D does not show anything in NorCal. The Acu site seems to be having “issues” so I can’t find anything there. I know about Ambrose but I wanted to see what else is out there. I have a sense that not all machine owners are listed on those sites. I saw in another thread that there many machines “between San Diego and Santa Cruz” so I am looking for info on specific places since my usual methods of searching have only turned up one.
Matt Ambrose… He is the best! 650 464 7224 good blanks good cuts good guy
i second that!

Let me rephrase some of my previous talk.
If you dont have a resale license, then the approach
is crucial with some.
Matt Ambrose is really professional.
Plus he has all kinds of board building supplies available.
He also charges when the waves are firing!
