my TK flex fin has worn off about 1/4" on the trailing edge in just a couple of months.
is that normal or is it defective ?
Has anyone ever seen a trailing edge on a single fin wear out ?
thanks for feedback

Are you using it to shave, or are you just grinding it on the bottom?
I stress fracture the base of most of my fins within 30 days, but never ever saw a trailing edge get worn out…
Are you tossing your board, so the leash is wrapped around the fin?
1st: Fins are supposed to be installed with the point going towards the back.
2nd: Surfing straight into the beach until the fin grinds sand is generally seen as bad form and a beginner move.
Other than those, everything sounds peachy.
(Is this really Dower?)
Ha ! I could have shaved with it as sharp as it was new.
but , no, not any abuse at all. And its the trailing edge… i know i’m not hitting the sand, anyway.
When I got out of the water yesterday, I noticed right away it was worn more. I hadn’t had a flex fin before and this one was so razor sharp from the beginning. It looked like it was too thin, if thats possible. Anyway, its wearing away in the first 1/3 (or last 1/3) … near the tip .
wierd, eh ? Maybe its just a bad fin…
yup, its me… I was at stinson yesterday…
I had already tried it the first way you said. it just wasn’t turny enough…
Yer right though, Benny, I guess. but how else are you suppose to stop ?
i guess, i should return the fin … or cut it down and make a keel fin out of it. it will be soon at this rate, anyway
Could your cord be getting wrapped around it, pulling tight, and chipping (not Chipper) off the thin edge? That’s the only thing I can think of.
Castle House? Calles? Or Potty break? Any good bars yet? 'Tis the season…with these east winds.
potty break… (i just wanted to say that)… it was a beautiful day and it was fun.
nope… i’m lazy about the cord. i always just drape it over the board. never wrap the tail… so the mystery goes on…
You bail your board, leash wraps around superthin trailing edged fin, so check your leash!
Did I mention dat already?
yeah, its gotta be something like that. since my beard isn’t really all that tough.
I clicked onto this thread, “normal wear” , thinking you [the seamstress / teamster from Botswana] had finally designed me a new strobe-resistant wetsuit
I’ve now learnt the right way to have a fin pointing !
And not to use my fin for shaving [damn ! you mean now I have to BUY razors ??]
(a serious one )…
do you have a photo of the trailing edge please , “Chinga Dera” ?
…mine is still well hidden …
down under …
"chipfish61" hehe
I came to grips with who I really I am and couldn’t deceive my fellow swalockians any longer. I came clean.
I feel much better. And you will too when you come out with it.
Yeah, like Lee, I meant your leash wraps itself around the board when you fall off & when the wave takes it away, it pulls tight into your fin.
I don’t wear leashes, so my fins are in good shape. (Logical, right?)
Just like, What floats?
A duck.
So a duck must weigh the same as wood.
So if she weighs the same as a duck, she must be made of wood.
And witches burn, so they must be made of wood.
So if she weighs the same as a duck, she’s a witch.
Burn her!
Following me?
Or is it different in Botswana?
Ha ! gotcha benny…
yer sayin’ I should be riding a wooden duck , right ?
no… yer sayin i should use a “wooden duck” instead of the TKflex
riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight… got it… thanks ben
this isnt really related to this but its a fin problem. i got a cut away fin for a boad earlier this summer and after about two months of the board standing on its tail proped up against the wall. it got a significant bend in the lower third of the fin.
i took the board out one day before i knew what happened and the thing was a total dog, i couldnt figure out what was wrong until i set it on the ground and walked away.
the fin cost me like 40 bucks and its usless now, my freind seems to think that if we used his heat gun we might be able to bend it back. any solutions.
i will try and post a pic later tonight.
thats a bummer Turbo… carefully heating might work…
i think i would try clamping a splint on it first with a small shim pushing it the opposite way.
heating resin might do some bad things. delam ?
thats what i am wondering to. but the way i look at it. if i dont do anything its just going to sit there on the surf cabinet and take up space. and if i do it might work, and if it doesnt it can always sit on the cabinet and take up space.
Grind the bent part off & make a small glass-on?
I always found cutaways gutless anyway. I know some people like 'em, but I did enough testing to know they don’t do anything for me…
