north western australia. are there waves

Looking for surf in the nw of oz, particulary Port Headland area. Any Help is greatly appreciated.

did you get the job John ???

Not yet , are there any waves between pt hedland and broome

ummm…I’m not sure …

BERT ??

I’ve had some okay waves in Broome. I imagine that coast gets waves occasionally.

Beautiful coast.

hope this helps http://www.wannasurf.com/spot/Australia_Pacific/Australia_WA/North_West/index.html

West-coast cousin of mine says yes. He just says you have to be more careful as you go further north - bigger sharks… And eventually salties (big crocs, for you yanks).

Cable Beach in Broome gets waves on low tide, there is stacks of surf i’ve heard about even a pumping beach break pit called “axewounds” which was in a surf mag a year or so ago.

If there’s waves in Port Douglas and Port Phillip Bay, there’s waves anywhere.

I’ve seen pics of excellent ridden waves in the Mediteranian too.

repeat after me …

“yes , there are saltwater crocodiles . Also , box jellyfish , maassssive tiger sharks , scorpions , tiger snakes , man eating pterydactyls, centipedes , steroided “locals” , HEAVY gnarly reefs , miles from help …maaaasssive tiger sharks , sea snakes , maaaaassssive tiger sha…”

I had a look in mark warrens atlas and it stopped at exmouth , I don’t doubt that there are waves , and hope they are plentiful and clean , I am weighing up the pro’s and cons of a major relocation for the clan, and waves are essential.

you will be the most northern of us westies then !

[there used to be a guy [the most SOUTHERN of us westies] in Margaret River …whatever happened to “Ruds” ?? …and Gray…in the Perth hills ?? …are you lurking here at all ?]

hehe! Mate - three Great White attacks along the SA coast in the last 10 months. Two of them fatal. I am stoked cos the crowds have thinned

Port Hedland, ummmmmmmmm, no…Broome ocasionally but not really worth the 300km trip to find out there is none…got big tankers though ala Texas…and as Chip said, sharks, crocs, box jellyfish, huge tides (up to 9metres)

You could wait for a cyclone though, got some excellent waves at Onslow (about 400km south of Hedland) during a cyclone in the late 80s.

Stupid men in orange suits and policemen told me to get out of the water…poor buggars had to wait for me because I couldn’t hear them…hehehehe
