nose concave?

i just want to check if i understand why we like our noseriders with a concave. by adding a curve to the bottom, instead of a flat bottom, the surface area is increased. the result of more surface area is more force from the face of the wave coming up and pushing on the bottom of your board. this force gives the rider more support not to pearl. so a board could be shaped with a narrower nose but a deeper concave and maybe would have the same support to the rider while on the nose. while on the topic of noseriding how important is the thickness of the board in the first 12" of the nose?
