Nose rider concaves

Hey guys, I’m just wondering if anyone has some suggestions on what tools to use when creating the concave in the nose of the board during the shaping process. I have been using my power planer and a straight edge sureform. If there are better approaches I would appreciate any advice. Thanks, G

Using the paner is a good start. You can also make a wide sanding block with a curve to somewhat match the concave.Glue a sanding belt on it. .The hard thing is working the stringer down,a modelers plane helps. R.B.

yeah, like cleanlines said, also you can use the “convex” surform blade

OH-NO not you two again! (just kidding)Hey guys thanks. Actually Reverb I was thinking one of those convex surforms would work nicely for a difinitive outline on the concave. Thanks again. And Yo, can’t we all just get along?

Hey I like Reverb.I guess I have lots of time on my hands today. Thanks R.B.

finishing the stringer in a concave is easier with a convex spokeshave like one of these. Often used in wood shops for scooping out seats or canoe/kayak paddles… http://www.fine-tools.com/G303771.htm

John, thanks for the picture and web-site. I just browsed their site, wow, they have beautiful tools. Works of art for creating works of art.
