Found an article in an old Longboard magazine(Nov/Dec 96 p.30) that suggested turning the blank around and shaping it backwards in order to get the “absurd” tail kick necessary for a good noserider. Has anyone done this? Does anyone order blanks(ie.10’1"Y) with more tail rocker than nose rocker? Thanks for any help.

t know about the issue of reversed blanks, but the same general principle seems to apply: all the good noseriders that I
m familiar with have progressive rocker, i.e., the least in the front, and gradually increasing toward the tail. Dale
Just get your blank supplier to alter the rocker to suit your requirements.Try 3 1/2" nose and 4 1/2 to 5" in the tail flipped over the last 18 inches.I’m in Australia and South Coast Foam do a great job with all my rocker lines your supplier should also…

Ive used the 10’1"y natural rocker, and ordered it with reversed rocker. It worked really well. You just have to put a little chine from the nose, back about three feet to loosen the rail up so it does not stick. It’s a great glider, with a very nice feel in the tail.Easy turning, great nose ride’s.

Thanks Dale, Darren and J.A. for the help. J.A., are you saying you order the blank with the natural rocker template applied backwards? If so, those numbers are real close to what Darren suggested. Sorry for the ignorance; still fairly new at this.
Doublejay…J.A.here.The whole rocker movie huge. And i mean huge. The rocker catalog itself is great, but you must take your time, and know what you really want in rocker for the one speceal board you are going to be making. The blank catalog is all anybody really need’s for a nice new board. It’s all right there. As for the rocker we talked about.I just ask for the 10’1"Y natural rocker, reversed. If you try to give them number’s.It just confuses them. You can add nose and tail rocker, but most of the time it isnt nessasary.Sorry about the spelling.I just got a spelling ace,but i can’t figure it out yet.We all hope i will. The best thing to do is get a rocker, and blank catalog from clark. Most glass shop’s have an extra.Just make sure it is current.J.A.
TRY BACKING OUT 1/2" NOSEROCKER AND ADDING 1-11/4"TAIL ROCKER LAST 12-18" AND YOU’L HAVE A GREAT NOSERIDER AND A MUCH EASIER SHAPE JOB
TRY BACKING OUT 1/2" NOSEROCKER AND ADDING 1-11/4"TAIL ROCKER > LAST 12-18" AND YOU’L HAVE A GREAT NOSERIDER AND A MUCH EASIER SHAPE > JOB Thanks cdb and thanks again J.A. About that rocker catalog, I notice in the specs and shaper’s comments that this kind of rocker is never suggested, even for the larger blanks. Considering the popularity of longboarding I find it strange that a blank has not been designed with a natural rocker more like what we are talking about. I guess it wouldn’t be as versatile.
Your right. It isnt a popular rocker at all. It’s a more down the line kind of rocker for slow wave’s like the fairgrounds in Ventura. You can make all theose section’s by just standing there.A fun bottom rocker. Not serious like what you need for the winter there. There are hundread’s of way’s to go in this art form.Just try not to make a board for all season,s and condition’s.A quiver of 10 is a good start. Then next year,10 more.Alway’s up date.Don’t follow leader’s,watch your parking meter’s.Don’t need a weatherman to see witch way the wend blow’s.It’s late, ive lost it.J.A.

Definately making this board for a slow wave. Also, when refering to the blank specs and shaper’s comments I meant to say blank catalog not rocker catalog.
double jay, If your local wave is slow consider a nice wide tail something like 15 1/2" to 16 1/2" works great in slow conditions, just thin the tail right out so it’s like 1/4" or less . With all the rocker you won’t have any trouble turning a wide tail if it’s THIN.You’ll get heaps more drive out of the surface area the wide tail creates.I put a deep double concave through the fins to further increase surface area so that every time you put your weight down you propel off the water instead of sinking or bogging in slow waves. Good Luck…

YEA BUT THAT WAS IN REFERENCE TO THE CON UGLY, AND BACK THEN THEY DIDN’T HAVE ROCKER TO THE EXTENT WE HAVE NOW FROM CLARK FOAM(HENSE THE NOSE FLIP THEORY). THE ONLY OTHER EXTREME TAIL ROCKERED BOARDS I’VE EVER SEEN WERE ON DAVID NUUHIWA’S PERSONAL NOSERIDER(3YRS. AGO, A ‘BING’)WHICH I DISCUSSED WITH HIM, AND A WAVE TOOLS BY LANCE COLLINS. A VERY GOOD NOSERIDER FOR HANGING TEN(HANGING FIVE CAN BE DONE ON ANYTHING!)CAN BE HAD FROM A 10’1Y WITH UP RAILS IN THE TAIL AND DOWN RAILS IN THE NOSE!!!A 10’1y IS REALLY 10’3.5" SO CUT A COUPLE OF INCHES (2-5") OFF THE NOSE FOR EVEN LOWER NOSEROCKER. HANGING TEN IS WORLDS AWAY FROM HANGING FIVE, HOW DO I KNOW, I DO IT, TRUST ME, 4" OF UP TAIL RAILED ROCKED WITH ROUNDED VEE LAST THIRD WILL GET YOU UP THERE. IF YOU CAN’T PERSONALLY HANG TEN(AND MOST CAN’T, MAYBE TWO OR THREE GUYS AT ANY MAJOR LONGBOARD SPOT!) DON’T SWEAT TAIL FLIP, BUY A 10’1y, OR IF YOUR A LITTLE RIPPER A 9’1y HAS ALMOST 4" ALSO…

Only two guys can do it at my spot and I’m not one of them but would like to be, which is why I’m making this board.

Has > anyone done this? Does anyone order blanks(ie.10’1"Y) with more tail > rocker than nose rocker? Thanks for any help. Greg Liddle turned me on to this concept years ago.He made me a 9’ spoon with very little rocker-period.The most noticeable rocker was in the tail-best nose/tip riding board I have had.(although I recently got a 9’4" Paul Gross spoon with essentially the the same rocker and it works great!)I think it was the old Morey/Pope adds that really explained this principle-they even had you turn up the bottom corner of the page to assimilate a wave as part of their hands-on demo for this particular add campaign. If you get a chance, check out an MP penetrator or blue machine.
