Noseriders and the chamfered tail

Ahh…the seemingly endless search for the perfect board. In this particular case, the perfect noserider. I’ve scoured the internet looking at all types of different models. The dimensions for most are similar, of course, so I have those down. Nose concave? Yeah, got that about figured. The tail? Well…there’s the problem. I know that a relatively flat entry rocker and an accelerated tail rocker is good, but I had my questions about the deck.

Step tails and chamfered tails (like in the M. Farrelly “Stubby” design and the Cooperfish “Device”) make sense in my mind, but I wanted to ask you all if, in your experiences, they make a noticeable difference in the water.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

i’m making my first with a scooped tail in about 3 weeks…i’ll let ya know…but i dig it in theory

My 9’4 New Dimension (http://www.huntcustoms.com/gallery/ninefournd.jpg) has a bit of scoop in the tail and it noserides really well. This is a better example of tail scoop on a Hunt (http://www.huntcustoms.com/gallery/ANANIA-2.JPG), its not very extreme but works well for me (http://myspace-539.vo.llnwd.net/00062/93/53/62613539_l.jpg)

i love gregg’s boards…especially the ND and the El Gato

I’ve had both boards and they are both really good, the El Gato can actually be a fun noserider, similar to the alex knost model) if you put the right fin in it and get it the right length.
