I dropped by Mitch’s north today. chatted with one of the owners, she said that they may be getting in some Walker blanks some time soon. also she said Walker has indeed jumped up it’s production volume and had some new blank models coming soon. Thier prices on boards hadn’t gone up yet.
Just for fun of it I stopped in at un-Surf Ride… Holy Cow! , They had signs up saying two board min (Edit)(, oop’s I ment 2 board max.) per person and one Merrick or CI per person, the place was packed and in the 3 minutes I was in there I saw 4 boards being sold even though the price was marked up at least $100. you could see the old price under the black marker mark. .I over heard one of the sale persons say they will be raising the price up another $200.00 soon… this person went on to say that finally boards are at the price they should have been sold for to begin with…
I have 9 clarks and 2 walkers… gonna hang on to those clarks as long as I can.
Ray. got it locked up plus I have Hank guarding barn full time now. grrrrrrrrrr!. you should have seen the chains and locks Mitch’s had on the shanty blankroom door.
Chano. They are not for sale. I will probably hang on to them for my personal boards. besides 6’2" C’s weren’t all that popular anyway… :+)
Howzit stingray,I’d say you hit the nail on the head with that bit of advise. I’d advise everyone to stash their blanks and boards because the thieves will definitly be on the prowl now. A friend of mine I made a board for just a couple of months ago had his board stolen out of his truck parked in his driveway just the other day and it will be quite a while before it can be replaced.Aloha,Kokua
I can’t believe a board would be stolen on Kauai! Last time I was there, around 2000, guys would leave extra boards on their cars on the highway to surf Pakala. Guess things will be different from now on…sad. I sure feel for the outer island bros as if it gets hard to get blanks on Oahu, it could only be harder over there. I hope once the smoke clears things will sort themselves out. A friend bought a board today from HIC and said things were quite normal over there. Also mentioned that they got their blanks from Australia so there would be hardly any after shocks for them. Only time will tell whats gonna happen. I will miss the 9’1" Y and 7’11" R blanks though.
Howzit foamdust, Yeah it’s a shame but the guy lives in Wainiha and that’s called iceland these days and they will stteal anything they can sell to get there drugs. The board had a very unique pigment color abstact desing and the owner has posted pictures all over the island so who ever has it will have a hard time using it with out it being noticed. As for Blanks we are OK for now and things are calming down,I’ve been caontacted by a foam maker who will supply me and one of my shapers is putting together a container of blanks to be shipped fro Austrailia. Get on the band wagon and put together a list for the Blanks that Fiberglass Hi is going to sell for Clark. Fax them your list with your co name, phone number and put attention Lewis. They have to unload the containers and put together an inventory list so they know what is there and then they will distribute them in an orderly and fair fashion.Aloha,Kokua
Thanks for the info Kokua…Its a shame that beautiful Kauai has an ice problem too, I guess there is nowhere that is immune to it. Good to hear you guys have another supplier lined up. I’ll be sending a fax to FH and hope for the best. I still have 3 blanks that are cut out, a 5’8" fish, 6’6" roundpin and 9’0" longboard so by the time I get around to finishing them there will hopefully be someone else bringing foam in. Seems like the paranoia is subsiding and everyone is looking forward with a more positive attitude. Peace…
