November 15th, Workshop @ SHF

There were a number of requests, after the last workshop, for an ‘‘advanced’’ workshop. This will be it. A very small venue, only ten people, and five of those slots are spoken for. So there are five places available. The event will be 9am to 3pm, Sat. Nov. 15th., at SHF in San Clemente. There will be a

Pizza lunch included. We need to cover the cost of lunch, and the cost of staff, to open the facility, and to ‘‘babysit’’ us. Cost estimate is $35 dollars.

Please contact me by PM, and let me know something of your experience level. The small venue will allow greater depth of discussion of design, techniques,

materials, or whatever topics arise. The agenda, as in the past, will be driven by your questions. It may be possible that I can get some fins and boxes donated, so that each person can get one/some. The fin thing is a BIG IF. It can only happen through the generosity of the Mfgrs, or suppliers, who would donate some product.

There are now four slots remaining to be filled, for the workshop. If you have built three or more boards, you have the experience necessary to ‘‘qualify’’ to participate in a meaningful way.

Gentlemen,

There are now TWO places remaining, to be filled. If you are interested in attending, I encourage you to get on board quickley. Once ten people have signed on, I have to close the attendance. Thank you for your support of these events.

There is now ONE slot open for attendance. As stated above, this is a small venue, only ten people total. There will be a more detailed discussion possible, on all topics raised. IF you are interested, please contact me, so that I can include you. Thank you again for your interest.

For those in attendance, what topics are of particular interest to you? One Board Quiver?..I’ll bring my latest version, outline, and rocker templates, to share. Anything else? Let me know.

how about…

glassing tips

resin color do’s and dont’s

rail types and application’s

fin set up’s and how they affect different board shapes

polishing tecniques

sanding tecniques to achieve that super flat mirror finish

tool selection and application

should we bring some of our work to share?

Can’t believe I missed this thread! Will there be more of these in the future?

Darnit.

Rails – in general, yes, but also how rail design X affects board performance

Fin placement – in general, OK, but also how to integrate fins and fin placement with a board design into a unit that functions optimally together

Thanks!

Outlines -

and not your typical outline, I have seen some pretty strange outlines on boards that seem to work, for example the thumb, mini-simmons and things of that nature.

Bottoms -

Convex, concaves, vee, I know Bill you are a fan of flat bottoms, but I have noticed that on a few of my fish that I have purchased there seems to be a mall amount of belly or vee before the fin cluster.

And I agree with etmo fins and rails please.

Mike

Outlines: Anything will work…to a degree. The task is to identify the optimum for the desired conditions.

Bottoms: I’m a fan of ‘‘flat’’ appearing, bottom surfaces. I always have an almost invisible, transverse, arc to the bottom.

Fins, and rails, will be addressed.

I’m bumping this back up to remind the attendees of out ‘‘date.’’ I’m personally looking forward to this workshop, because of the small venue.

Any chance of these events ever being put on a cd or dvd for us far-away-guys?

Sorry to report that no plans have been made for that. However, there have been some conflicts that have opened up some slots, so anyone wishing to step in can do so by contacting SHF, and getting on-board. Remember, the group will be small, 10 to 12 people, so lots of detail can be discussed. Fins, rails, design, glassing ‘‘secrets’’, selecting fin position, and more…

One last bump-up, so all the contact info is together.
