only two months to all hallows day …I roughed six today Im jacked on the stoke meter to about 9.5on the ten scale…they were saying 30 days of waves in september in the surf dog camp at the hanalei pavilion in 1968 little weave ws shaping em on the beach and glassing em with sheets bubby was the guy with the best tent his dog chooey was the dog of merritorius note vicky was the mom mona was the kid,… jeff ,frog, coy ,abbot ,naito, were the animated true belivers under 18 being raised by the village although they didnt realize it… schrader had the prettiet wife in the history of mankind, the community college was fronting for subsidised surfing… the old guys were 25 and they just exuded wisdom from every pore had all the cool cheap rent surf pads especially the red and white one at tunnels with the hambone reentry poster on the porchthat you could see from the road …the honolulu guys had the waiters jobs wired…the invisible elite waited in the shade all along the shore anticipatingthe first crackling spitter off the point … limahuli was singing variations of the love song it had been singing forever to bobos and cannons waiting for the westswell to mingle its waters with the sea and take them to tunnels perhaps to hanalei though not likely waioli waipa and hanalei rivers themselves were the steady and stalwart lovers of that coveted reef Heney Tai Hook allowed these children of the waves to learn to love this place… many have gone many have stayed…Namolokama watches carefully all that happens ,every tree that is planted every tree that has been taken away…every rain drop,to cascade through waterfalls, questing validation and completion, not unlike the children caught up in this facination .The Great ocean Ignores the status mobiles .land speculation, interspecies covetess and continues to promise its undieing and unconditional love of this fickle reef complex …may we all live to see a perfect empty wave and imagine seeing Harpo doing a nose tweak flying his trailing arm in the curl,or little Weave or any number of departed fallen heros who devoted themselves to an unconditional love of this place.its o.k to cry when you hear Carlos’s words woven within the tradewind cords …your memories are your own if you look up river people passing may think those are raindrops running down your cheeks

Yo Ambrose, the good ol’ days. I was one of those waiters working in waikiki and living on the North Shore. What amazes me is I worked at Chuck’s Black Angus rest. and we made better tips then some waiters make now (35 yrs later) but when you take in to inflation we made about 4 times more then they do today.Aloha, Kokua
