I’ve heard that too. BUT, just take out your cheepo Bic lighter and melt the seam together again.
thats a new one on me, but thats not too suprising im sure. who needs a ding repair kit, just melt some plastic on that bad boy, call it good. Shady buisness id say. give me fiberglass and foam anyday.
You guys need to open your eyes to new ideas, or old ones too.
Bic Tech on the poly plastic boards have been around for 20 years…known as heavy, flexible, and super durable against dings and absorbs dents…not springing back.
But they usually don’t split open, don’t take on water, is cheap and easy to repair (hot glue gun, P-tex candles, or use a Bic lighter to melt it together), and will usually outlast any custom for withstanding light abuse.
Heavy abuse, like big hollow surf, they break. Heavy abuse, like shooting it with your .357, they get holes…so do custom epoxy or poly boards.
Say what you want about custom shapes vs production shapes…the future is getting nearer and you won’t have your way for long.
very good point lee, but ill still be odering foam and makin my own regardless. what exactly is the future? seems there are so many ways to go its would be easy to get all caught up in technology. But hey im still a grommie, and i will concede that my point may be that of inexperience
i like my longboards heavy, and bulletproof. NSP, Surftech, Boardworks, etc, are the opposite. longboarding, to me, is about the glide. how can you glide when every little bump in the ocean’s surface is knocking you around…
if you’re only gonna use it twice or three times a year, sounds like you’ve got too much money on your hands. if you’re gonna spend that much on a POS board, you might as well cough up a little bit more and get something shaped, that is exactly what you want.
Hi,haavard
Surf in italy is Ok if you have time to wait for thr right swell!
Mediterranea sea is not ocean but Italy has the luck to have sea around three sides and so swells can arrive easily.Sardinia Island ,then, has 200 days of waves the year and that waves!!!
How are you in Norway with so cold water?
While you say in Norway there is a lot of SOUTH POINT longboard ,here I have seen them only inside surf shop by now.
greetings
Does your friend know SOUTH POINT longboards too or are you only referring to BICs?
I guess that everyone has is own opinion about longboard construction but I’d like to know if anyone tryed himself a SOUTH POINT 10’2’’ and what thinks of it.
As said earlier I have a 9’ BIC and I know its limits and its advantages (light, strong, no care needed…) and I’d like to know if SOUTH POINT too are so practical and hard to break, keeping in mind that, sure, I will not use it with 6’ high waves!!!
bye

You can use an old iron or a welding iron as well. it can get messy though. Bdw. Bic uses several different constructions, some can take more beating than the others. I wish I had a picture of the rentals at fuerteventura cause those boards had a really hard life. regards, Håvard

Actually the NSP surfboards are not that light(atleast not the shortboards, never tried to lift one of the longboards). regards, Håvard
Hi Praseodimio,
I keep telling myself Italy would be the perfect place to go on vacation if it only had good, consistent surf. I’ve seen photos of good surf as well, but I guess you’d have to have a bit of luck for it to hit in a short vacation. The fetch distance is short in the mediteranian so I guess you need fairly powerful wind and the swell doesn’t last all that long.
Norway is not that cold thanks to the gulfstream(actully got 30+ celsius airtemp now, 22 water), but thick rubber is required during the winter.
regards,
Håvard
i agree try building one is lots of fun and cheaper if you dont count the hours. if it doesnt go well you can always sell it as second hand and use it to finance another one. Just give it a go
Dear Haavard,
you are right when you say we have to have luck for a good swell, but ONLY in summertime. If you take alook at some good websites or webcams you’ll see thet by this weekend a nice swell willhit nord Tuscany, where I live.
Swell usually last 4-5 days with good surf conditions. Liguria, Tuscany and expecially Sardinia are the best regions to surf. Sardinia is a beatiful island with a lot of wonderful beach and natural landscapes where big waves hit the coast with regular frequency.
In winter and autumn things go better, with consistent swells so that often you cannot even surf and have to wait still swell and wind goes little down.
Take a look at www.ilmeteo.it, www.surf.tuttospezia.it or www.surfschool.it with nice webcam and wave forecastings.
I’d like to try nordic waves, expecially if water temperature is nice just like you say it is!
ciao!
“Seven days without surfing makes one WEAK!!!”
yes boards are ready. car is ready there will be some swell in Levanto and i´ll check it out. yes
thanx for that info praseodimio. I´ll surf a wave just for you. Friday should get 2m swell. thats great
dear surfingdude,
Wish you a good surf, if in versilia will be too big I will come to levanto too!!
I’ll be the one with the white superfrog longboard!
Stay wet!
well that would be a real pleasure. I am the guy who tests his own shapes. Will come with a variety of boards. my not yet tested 5´10" , 6´2" thruster and 6´6" semi gun all without brand name and just white. posca pens are on it´s way but the swell will not wait. it´s definitely the first time for a very long time (6years) that i can surf without a wetsuit. good swell to all of you
clemens
Personally, I think NSP southpoint longboards are good for people just starting out or that need a beater board. I have ridden a 9’2 NSP, didn’t like it but am willing to give the 10’2 a shot. For under $500 its a good deal. It’s funny I hear about all the support your local shaper debates, but in the surfing industry more money is made by clothing companies, but we don’t hear the support your local seamstress debate.
International trade is here to stay. COBRA is a well run plant, with ISO9002 certification, meaning that they have world class manufacturing processes in place. How many local shapers can say that they’re ISO certified? Not many.
Aloha,
Al
Hi again,
might have to try a trip to sardinia just to check it out. Missis would love it. Been to Rimini a twice and certainly saw surfable waves, altough not big or perfect by any means.
As for the temps here, those are NOT the norm + it’s damn flat right now.
regards,
Håvard
Hello praseodimio. Do you have any webcam addresses for sadinia and what side of the island is best for surfing?
was in waikiki last week and enjoyed threes very uncrowded with a south point rental—kinda scary but the board worked well for me --wished the same was available for rental on maui–not my cris kunta or my bruce jones but A VERY RIDABLE BOARD=one of my most fun sessions a very rideable board!!
