nugget

How do does the Nugget (poly or surftech) board ride? late drops? tubes?hollow beachbreak? Does it drive or does it sit still until it gets into a curl. I rode a Merrick surfteck YECCHHHH. it had a mind of it’s own and didn’t ride logically-super fast in the curl, then stopped in the flat, no momentum, too corky, etc etc. HELP…

Hi Bandman,

I find that despite their thickness the Nuggets I have/had love hollow powerful conditions. People tend to see them as small wave fun boards (and I can understand why you would make that mistake) but despite appearances they really shine in demanding surf.

thanks rdm-I may get one if I can,but it they seem expennsive and scarce seeing as I don’t want a surftech. Later

your dead-on regarding how the surftechs works, I have both the 6’8" Merrick Flyer and the 7’11" McCoy Nugget Single. I’d consider both fun boards…

The 7’11" single seems to be the best of the bunch in the Surftech McCoy line and I think riding them with the various Mccoy gullwings or the Horan keel are the way to go if you looking for short board fun in a longboard package. Light, turny and very very floaty.

When the longboarders finally get on my nerves I go in and get mine cause I can pretty much out paddle anyone up to a 10’ poly with my 7’11" and yet still surf circles around them if they still drop in… I consider it my hogging longboard secret weapon. I’m floating 1-2 on top of the water with that thing. Everyone says the same thing… “Wow that thing is thick and look at that tail”, but it bring alot of smiles from older guys who remember Cheyne and his McCoys in Hawaii… These are actually pretty popular here along with the Rad Cluster longboard model…

It’s also the best backside mid-longboard design I’ve ever owned with the gullwing as it turns on a dime in the hook off that big wide rear end… Straight down, staright up, straight down … very hard to do that with your standard 9’0" plus I’m catch the waves 20 yards outside of anyone else anyway…

Hard to even imagine what a McCoy poly nugget must go like… Solo and Tanner know about them intimately…
