Hi Keith,

Too bad the AB3 was canceled, because we had a great south swell that weekend. Diamond head was the best I’ve seen it in a long time, like 30 years. Lighthouse has also been going off as well. We’re getting waves with 6’ - 8’ faces right now. I hope it stays that way all summer.

See you in Sept.

Aloha, Harry

you got me mind surfing that. ~~~~aloha

sounds like an insane amount of fun. We have had weeks of flatness and grey skies. I was tempted to call this AB3 but I see nothing wrong with thrusters myself!! See ya’ll in September!! Let’s try to round up the usual suspects…and some new folks too!

Hey Bernie - I have a 6’4" quad with me…if you have a griff in that size range it would be fun to compare…
See ya,
Keith

I expect to be there, but shoots, looks like the swell won't be.  Man o man, it's been rully rully small lately.  Ankle bruisers at best, particularly at high tide, which we'll need to get across the reef at Public's.

Shoots, if we don't disturb the homeless there are always plenty of queers to interact with.

I have become much interested in honeycomb panels, been looking into it after seeing the "show me your wood" thread.  Especially the balsa honeycomb.  Anyone know where to get that, or do I have to hand-fab it (which would only be tedious, not difficult).  I'm thinking a bamboo honeycomb core with translucent (epoxy?) skins, perimeter stringered, vented, flexible (tho I continue to think as Bill Thrailkill that flex is something you want in the other guy's board).  Flex controlled by kevlar tapes in the skin, I think.... Almost more an artwork than a rider.  It's done in my head, now to manifest it on this planet...

Bernie and I will be there early to get parking. I’ll bring a small weber grill, a 10x10 popup canopy. We can bbq burgers or whatever.

Charley, I’m not sure what type of honeycomb you’re talking about, but you can buy various materials from boat building suppliers if you don’t mind spending the money. I think the balsa honeycomb uses verticle grain wood, so it is very strong. Benny1 gave my brother some verticle grain balsa sheets. I don’t know where he got them from but they were about 1/2" or 1" thick.

We’ve made some simple sheets of thin wood veneer backed with 4oz glass the same way that Paul Jensen does his, and it’s not that hard to do. For quick and easy skins you can buy 2’ x 8’ sheets from a veneer suppler. Depending on the type of wood you want, it can cost anywhere from about $35 on up to hundreds. We’ve done that as well. The WMD thread shows how to do that type of board.

We’ll have a couple of wood compsands with us tomorrow.

Sounds good, we will see you all tomorrow. Rumor is that surf should be knee to waist high, but we’ll be there regardless.
Aloha,
Keith and family

Hi guys, I had a lot of fun yesterday. Always great to see everyone, talk story and grind. I think I left a few things at the beach, like the waterproof camera, maybe my knife.

Lorenzo can get those to me since we both work at HECO.

Even though the surf was small I had a lot of fun. It had been more than 30 years since I surfed at Publics and I don’t ever remember going out there with the rocks sticking out of the water like that. I still had a lot of fun though, maybe next time the waves will be a little better and we can try other boards.

Maybe next year we can move the party out to Makaha. That’s always a great beach to go to.

I send you all copies of the photos as soon as I can get them.

Aloha, Harry

shoot i went to the indicated location about 1130 and saw no one.  How did I miss you guys?  I was carrying a red/white cooler and my orange/yellow swirly longboard.  Even got the wife to tag along.  I checked out almost every tent there - no one I recognized.  well maybe next time.

I went down there too... I think I saw Harry paddle out to Publics(bamboo board w/2 boxes?) Then I walked around (Publics to Kaimana) and could not find anyone ...Sorry I missed you guys. No worries though, I walked across Kalakaua to the Okinawian festival and stuffed myself on Andagi ...Yum!  Hopefully next time I ll get to hook up my sways brothers.

Aloha

Stu

Wow, sorry we missed you all. I think at 1130 we were all out surfing. Guess we need a Swaylocks flag or banner, ha ha. The waves were actually fun on the outside…
We could do the next one at Makaha but there has been NO surf on the west side (and that’s typical for end of summer).
Diamondhead was ok yesterday…that might be a good spot next time, a bit more of a hike though.

I think we need to make a banner for the next time. My wife and kids would have come down too, but I forgot my cell phone at home she had no idea where I was.

Just shows that we will need to plan the next one a little better.

What did you guys think about all those men with the string bikinis on the beach at Publics? I think that would be enough to move the event to another spot.

We can figure out the right location based on time of year and keep it pretty open till the last minute.

FYI… I was up at Pipeline yesterday and it was really flat.
