I put a notice in the Hookups section but nobody ever sees to check there… so …
Will be there starting July 11 till the end of the month… would like to surf Courts with Harry, O’Beach with Bernie, Ala Mo w/ Derek, Pops/3s with Dennis, Lighthouse with Bud (and bammbamm?) and if anyone wants to surf out at Makaha, that’s where we are staying.
Of course I will meet anyone anywhere, from Yokes to Mokes… it would be fun to meet a few more of you that I’ve never met for a surf (bb30?) or to find some of the old crew that don’t post anymore (Honolulu?) or are there some of the time (Proneman?)
Maybe we should have another get-together down Ewa way like last summer? I’ll plan on showing up on Saturday the 21st with some food & drinks around lunchtime… if anyone wants to drag their boards that-a-way, you could respond here, or just show up to surf & grind.
I was stoked to see fellow swaylockers at “Goin Surfin” as I missed the get together at Ewa Beach. Yeah seeing, Bucky, Dennis and the Three’s posse, and of course Keith with his positive San Diego vibes made for a fun night. I think I liked the Cali segment the best, showing Reno, Ben Aipa and Bertelmann ripping the long point break walls of Malibu and Trestles. A cool change from the usual North Shore waves that you always see them riding. We stayed for a bit listening to legends Reno Abellira, Peter Cole, Kimo Hollinger, Jock Sutherland and Rick Grigg reminisce about their glory days and answer a few questions. A great night for sure…
HEy sorry to hijack but since your all on this thread. I am in the final stages of an interview running a boat in Oahu. I would be moving there in a couple of weeks if this goes through. My delima is its been 8 years since I have been there and dont remember too much of the neighborhoods. Is there some where I could live in the country and be by good surf but not be stuck in traffic for two hours each way? I am not much of a town person and my wife wants to be close to good surf since she wont be able to work for 6 months while she goes through immigration. Its not 100% but I am praying tit will happen. You can just Pm me if we dont want to ruin this thread.
Hi Keith, Sorry I missed you this last weekend. Bernie got sick Sunday and is still sick. I wasn’t feeling that great Sunday either and stayed home yesterday. Totally unrelated illnesses.
Took the family surfing at Queens yesterday so didnt make it over to Charlie’s…we are headed off tothe the airport this afternoon so wanted to say mahalo to the oahu crew …
I can host the party at my house. Just need to RSVP so I know how much beer, I mean food to have.
The winds have been kicking lately with no good swells. Hopefully there will be some surf. No need to bring anything, food and drinks, kayaks, boards, outdoor hot showers provided.
Good parking available at the beach park. Famous surfspot 1/8 mile up the beach. If the winds and swell cooperates, the outer reef is a 20 minute paddle directly out from the house and the safe surfbreaks are also right off the beach too. Families and children welcome. No pets please. We have two well behaved but territorial dogs.
Hey Keith my number still the same - give me a shout / text / email - missed you last time but be stoked to meet up with you & local swaypeople again. Too bad it’s stil summer surf though
Keith, I’m planning to take a day off and surf with you. If Makaha is breaking I’d love to go there. Got some friends on that side I need to touch bases with to tell them about the Ewa Beach reunion in Sept. They may be out if there’s surf, otherwise I can stop at the BK store and leave a message.
You can always leave boards here with Bernie or me too. So if you got something you like but don’t mind leaving here there are places to leave them.
Charlie’s house for a get together would be a lot nicer than Oneula Beach park, and there’s a beach park next door so we can shower there as well. We can go down and bother the Empty Lots gang, maybe see some of the guys posting on the Ewa Beach in the 60’s thread.
If you ever get a chance to see Charlie’s set up it’s well worth it. He’s the vac bag guru.
wow, awesome offer Charlie! sounds great. Typically we get about 2-3 dozen people at these shindigs, but it is always hard to predict an exact number. Maybe Bill Barnfield will make it down from the North Shore. There’s lots of Sway-lurkers on the island too… and no matter what you say, people will bring some food and beer! It wouldn’t be a party otherwise!!
Hey Bud - yup, missed you last time…I paddled out at big Lanis after the side shore winds (and rain) picked up and got worked !! I guess the good news about summer surf is, not likely to drown, ha ha.
I’ll text/call/something to get in touch. We drive into Town when Makaha is flat…often end up at diamondhead…I have a shortboard stashed at a friend’s house over on the east shore so am all set for the bumpy stuff!! Hope you can make it to the get-together, too…
Hey Bernie, you know us old guys will always have knee problems (if not neck, back, shoulder injuries etc). So start paddling and we’ll go surf in a couple weeks! Should be a good time.
PS we need to all go back to that seafood place… my treat this time. And I may want borrow a board from you, not sure yet… depends how quickly I finish the ones I’m working on of course!!
Howzit Harry - would like to see Charlie’s vac setup, I’m Mr. Lower Tech but always willing to learn. Why don’t you come on out and surf, you can hunt down your West side buddies too. I often just give a board to one of the local kids at the end of the trip, but thanks for the offer to stash one… it might take a small miracle but I’m hoping for a good summer swell at Makaha… pray for surf !!
I’ll definitely be spending one weekday surfing with you and the family. JoAnn is game to get together again so maybe we can all do something. My older daughter is home, so a picnic at Makaha on a weekend would work. We did that last summer, but it was flat. I rode my mat in tiny waves right in front of the apt building, and had so much fun.
We’re due for a swell next week, so I’m taking Tuesday off and hopefully catch it before the 4th of July crowds. I think we’ll see something when you get here.
