so far off that the first link doesn’t work for me… does it for anyone else?
Hi Charlie
Amazing isn’t it!!..I post the link & the site has problems!
Please check back later. If it continues I will post it all on my website.
Thanks for your patience.
Can I only put one attachment on at a time here?..hopefully one added!
The board has a carbon/kevlar/epoxy bottom & added suspension with rovings inlaid in the grooves shown on this attachment.
Lots of shots of the finished board through the first link…just hope its back soon!
Sweet! I have been planing something like this. I like to bride the gap on my fish anyway…
How does it surf?
How is it glassing the crack?
Hi obproud
There is a full report through that first link…

so I’ll be brief!
The board FLOWS …it just feels very natural & gives you a real rapport with the wave & allows you to fit a more radical turn in the most critical part of the wave with smooth control…it makes a conventional board feel very forced.
The board has a high density closed cell insert between the tails as shown in this attachment.
…next level.
Wow! Your board is incredible. That’s the deepest butt crack I ever saw. Beautiful work. Mike
Thanks Mike…I think!!!
High offbeat,
No sarcasm intended at all. Deep respect for your skill. Very cool board. Mike
wow!
now thats some shape!
verrrry interesting!
Cool stuff. I have been preaching the six-fin thing for along time. Have not found to many takers around here. The ones that do get ridden get ridden to death than brought back for a new one. I like the boards keep going with it!!
Offbeat, please keep us updated. That is very interesting.
Thanks for all your comments, I always appreciate feedback…& I will keep the thread updated.
I have been interested with flex for a long time. Not a short wavelength flick but more of a long wavelength longbow type that will load & release with meaning!
The front half of the board to me seems better off with minimal flex so as not to push water & to allow the tail to have something to lever off.
It’s a bit like a board with legs & flippers on it!
Attached photos show tail at “rest”…& “active”!
Hey Offbeat,
I think you might actaully get some of us stander-uppers on our knees just to try something like that!
As much as I would not want to discourage that…you don’t even have to…it works great on stand-up boards!.. it is a revelation riding one for the first time…but there is much that I have learnt as far as do’s & dont’s…the more logic applied the better!
My last post on this thread was a few weeks off a year ago & much water has passed between the fins since then…the interesting thing is that fatigue has had no effect on the board even though it has been surfed in some sucky shallow waves.
A shot of me surfing it in France -
Update - I've got a Silver Machine!

You are doing some nice work there, David. I like it a lot. The split tail and insert is a very resourceful solution to the engineering side of that build. Please keep us posted as you progress.
BTW, how long is it? I know just about nothing of kneeboards.
Hi Greg
If you scroll down from this photo I've put on some detail about it - http://www.ksusa.org/Forum/album_showpage.php?pic_id=24397
This one shows the flex....a neater & more durable option than the first ones I did - http://www.ksusa.org/Forum/album_showpage.php?pic_id=24412
I am just finishing another stand-up version....a 7' 2" ...should be finished this week......will post photos.
PS....who's David.....I'm Chris :]
Very cool design and execution! Just for fun… another take on flex tails design. Mark Thompson made some working w/ Greenough who has had them on his sailboards for many years. Keeping the flex part separate from the bottom will mean that the relationship/angles between fins will stay the same, which of course has pluses and minuses. Photo courtesy of Dale Solomonson…
