okay , AUSlockians .....

now Hicksy has [bravely] given the go-ahead on four side fcs plugs being added to the “Auslocks” board , I wondered …

what size and template side and back fins would you like to try out on the board .

Send drawings / photos / dimensions / suggestions …

Is anyone interested in trying any of the various fin templates I have posted on the ‘fin options’ and ‘my fish …some of the fin setups’ , as well as the ‘single fin templates’ and ‘twin fin templates’ threads ?

[you see , there WAS method to my madness , after all , in posting “SO MANY” photos of fins during the last year or so …]

cheers for any recommendations / suggestions / favoured setup ideas, guys !

ben

When I looked at that board I thought it would go well as a single. At least that’s what I’d like to try it as. The fin options will make the holders hold on to it a bit longer. It would add to the fun though. I hope someone gets some pictures of video of it in action and if it ever comes to Hawaii, let me know.

thanks Ben , that’s possibly a good point about the holders …wonder whatever happened to the Ambrose board in cali !!!

Well, I certainly want to take some photos of the christening / launching of the board HERE…

I think as long as Lavz and I can brave being seen in hicksy’s fairy kombi ,we may need to drive north of here to try to get some rideable waves for it .

I plan to have a water camera or two on hand for the day …and hopefully Grant or Anthony [or both !!] may have access to a video camera , too ?

at least with three of us , you’ll get some different styles and footage …

all we need … WAVES …

stay tuned …

I’m thinking , for starters , of making some back fins to match some of my existing side fins . (Bigger than the sides , but same shape , roughly …)

…any Aussies out there like to state their preferred fin setup[s] ?

cheers !

ben

somehow I put the reply in the original post - my vote is thruster, you just have to look at the foil and the outline.

only my 2 cents

Twin with trailor! that’d be exciting!

I relly like the idea of a widowmaker set up. Say, 7 1/2" single with 3’’ sides set with the trailing ends of the sildes about level with the front of the back fin. Whatdoyareckon??

yep, go the widow.

single.

thruster ? how far forward is that fin box ?

cecil

7" from the tail, 10" fin box…

…so , it would need to be a fin with about a three to four inch overhang out the back of the box , to accomodate thruster back fin placement . Hmmmmm…

Well, it’s looking more like I’ll be making a single fin , with matching small side fins . Possibly all from the one fin panel .

Carbon fibre might be the first set.

Then , cloth [and feeling ‘adventurous-spirited’] permitting , maybe either a green and yellow pigment , or a blue tinted set of fins next ?

… Have to wait and see , eh ?

…to be continued …

cheers !

Are Frenchlockians allowed to vote?

…send me the template and dimensions Bill , and maybe I can get a woodie …

ben

I’m afraid you will have to ask Bob BOLEN “the Greek”…

That was the original fin on my “Maui model”, broken even before I bought the board… third hand.

and maybe I can get a woodie …

Couldn’t let that one go without a comment…

anyway…

I need some measurements please people…

Since the finbox ends 7" up from the tail with some 10" of movement fore and aft, how far up do I put the trailing FCS plugs in from the tail and in from the rails…

I’m waiting with a hole saw in my hand…revving it slowly…

Rev…rev…rev…

I need some measurements please people…

J. Troy , thank you !

" 12 1/4 and 4 1/2 should work…depends on the board and how the guy surfs it…try it out and make any needed adjustments. "

cheers !

Wednesday [tomorrow here in wozzieland] , I will be going to Hicksy’s with cloth and lam resin…fin making day has arrived !

…also , four fcs plugs …

red or blue or "smokey " coloured ?

…any suggestions ?

I will take out some of my many cardboard templates , and put them one by one in the finbox .

And for starters , go with whichever Hicksy and I think looks good / “right” for the board.

The first fin I make [the single fin] may be a clear one , a yellow and green pigment one , a blue tinted one , or a carbon fibre inlay one … I haven’t decided yet …

I think “Lavz” may be busy [he’s working on a “project” currently , but I’ll leave that to him if he wants to share it here]…so , “maybe” hicksy or I “might” be able to get a coupla fin layup shots [?video?] , if anyone would be interested in seeing that ?

cheers !
