Old Blank, New Board

So a friend of mine gave me an old Mike Myers 7ft something in really bad shape. I want to make a new board out of it. I’ve cut out the basic shape I want. My problem is that I want to keep as much foam as possible. If I was to cover the blank in a layer of q-cell can I then used a planer to make the deck even? Or any ideas on where to go from here?

im doing the same thing now (but with a 6'4'' that i am turning into a 4'7'' beater).  i ended up making a concave deck because of all the dings on the deck.  I dont know about q-cell but theres one thing i had to do to keep some volume.

also your pictures do not seem to be showing up.  i dont know whether the problem is with me or u but try posting them again.
