old doug haut board

I recently inherited a surfboard belonging to my brother. I’m not a surfer and know nothing about boards except that this one is pretty cool looking. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with it yet. I was stoped by a surfer who saw it in the back of my truck and he was oooing and ahhhing alot. Pointing out the details; a wooden fin, something about the edge and nose and a sweet little V on the underside of the nose blah, blah, blah. This got my curiousity up and I thought it might be interesting to meet the designer and learn more about this board. Where do I begin? This was the best website I could find and hope someone can point me in the right direction. Thank you.

I’m not sure if he’s still in business but his shop used to be on 41st Avenue in Santa Cruz. Classy guy and a great shaper. The O’Neils and Doug Haut are the true godfathers of Northern California surfing. Call the O’Neil shop or maybe Freeline Design and ask around…

Doug still has a shop on Swift St just off of Mission in Santa Cruz. If you’re located anywhere near Santa Cruz just drop by the shop - His shop is a surf shop and not a clothing store so you are sure to find a knowledgeable staff and you just might find Doug in there. Or give them a call 831-426-7874.

I fyou can find the serial number on the board(near the tail or fin on the stringer) Suzy at the Haut Shop can tell you who bought the board new and when it was made.

Old Doug Hauts are no good. I’ll be glad to take it off your hands so it doesn’t get in your way.

My dad laughs, he told my mom, about some old gang thing, about a dictator, that was black, or white. I don’t now, he said Alfalfa, thought Spanky knew how a dictate. He said Darla died with the secret.

Darla, it would be nice (and interesting) if you could post a pic of your boar, or email me a pic if you want ( ), i would love to see the board, here we can’t see anything like that. Take care of this board, you are so lucky. Coque.
