So I came across this old surfboard at a garage sale that I payed $20 for. I would love to restore it back to good shape but dont know exactly what products to use. I know I need uv protected resin or it will just look like crap after being in the sun. I have done fiberglass, resin work before just not on a surfboard. I also have no clue the age of this board only was able to look up the guys name in google. It also has his signiture on the underside of the board that he carved in under the resin. Any info and info on the boards history would be great guys. here are some pics to help out
hahaha I was bored and got it. It was gone be used for as just a item to put in house or a small project for me to do. So I take it these boards are junk
I have no idea any history, if there is any on these boards. But if you want it as a house item, leave it as it is, the more battered, the more rad it looks if its just sitting there, but if you actually want to repair it to ride I would just get a ding all repair kit, follow the directions to make it water tight, then do a good sand of the entire entire board to thin out the sanding resin thats on it originally, once you can see the weave stop. Then go to surfsource.net and buy a quart of suncure sanding resin and do a thin layer over the top, sand to your liking and go ride.
There really is no restoring because the foam will always stay yellow
Im gone do the best I can and see whats comes of it. I guess some might think its funny i spent $20 on it, its all good each his own i guess. I like to just take items and bring them back to life. I think I might surprise yall with how it will look when im done, although its not the greatest board out there it can be used to try different types of repair methods instead of messing up a nice board. Give me a few weeks and Ill post the final pics of what I did. I'm always open to comments
What ever happened to Penguin- Dan Van Zanten? I remember him having a shop in Del Mar in the late 80’s - late 90’s. Sam Cody was doing the spray work for him then. Island Scene in Sorrento Valley might have been his glasser during that time - can’t remember.
i have a 6’8’’ van zanten rounded pin tail laying around somewhere that i picked up used in ocmd back in the late 90’s. had a logo that was a dragon intertwined aroud the “z” on the laminate…same guy?
