I didn’t realize this until it was too late, but the newer Probox boxes are slightly longer than the older Probox boxes. I am in the process of building my two daughters, two boards. So I got a quad template set (white/opaque) and used two old templates (red), for two thrusters. I put the new templates on the outside fins (4) and the older templates as the center fins (2). I also purchased two thruster sets of boxes (new). So I prep everything on both boards, mix enough resin and pout 1/4 full on each of six box-holes. Pop the first outside box in, goes perfectly, try to pop the first center box in and it just doesn’t fit. F%^K. So, in a moderate panic, put the rest of the outside boxes in place and back fill with resin. Now I have to re-rout the damn center holes filled with resin.
Just a warning, kids. The older Probox boxes are slightly shorter than the new Probox boxes. I suppose you could use the older boxes with the newer templets. And test fit everything, not just one box; another mistake I made.
Yeah, should be easy to fix. Plan on doing that this morning before work.
Well, I’m notoriously ‘thrifty’ and have been carfully using the older red templates for years and only bought new ones recently. Lesson learned. I do have a few older boxes (white) remaining; bought black boxes because my kids wanted black boxes.
I also replaced my old Probox router bit. The new one is like a dream. The old one was just so worn out. I didn’t realize how bad it actually was.
EDIT: And the new Probox template is a nice improvement over the older, narrower design. Even my clunky, big, short-circuited router can ride on this template with ease.
I don’t know. I only build a few boards per year. I bought a few fin box sets + router templates back in 2005, 2006, 2008 (probably from Fiberglass Supply) and haven’t purchased any Probox boxes or templates until just recently (from Greenlight).
