One CA Day -- hull footage?

check out this clip of The Making of One California Day on youtube - the footage of Jimmy Gamboa – is that the hull footage? looks like it. I heard about someone riding a red hull in this flick – is that what Devon Howard is riding??

Yes, Gamboa is most definitely riding a hull in a few of those clips.

about 55 seconds into the clip shows a couple of swaylocks best trail riders.

Ohhhh tRail riders…now I get it. At first I was thinking Matt’s no tail rider. Or maybe he is and he’s keeping it a secret…

actually i thought he e-pac meant rail rider(via our stubbies)…now lee, what kind of tail? surfboard or female???

Ahh yes, the infamous split tail riders…although, I believe that belongs on another BB.

Weve ridin some wild TRAILS together for sure , but that day we were buckin hay bales allday long!! When Papa Malloy calls you just dont say no, you say what time , and you better be early!

i think the board gamboa rides in the movie is a klaus jones shape…

i seen in Sprout Gamboa had a Pavel disp hull - the inside jacket had a list of all the boards used in the movie.

I’m surprised you don’t hear more about Rich Pavel’s hulls – even the TSJ article some months back showed a Pavel hull.

Are his hull somehow different?

My guess is that Gamboa brought a Liddle to Pavel as a model for that board.

Rogelio

The Pavel and the Klaus Jones were boards Jimmy got from those guys , but they are copys of Steve Krajewskis 6’8’'( red death) Liddle that was Steves favorite board and he gave it to Jimmy and he rode it to death and restored it 2 more times till it just delamed the whole deck . The Pavel is in Sprout and the board in OCD is a Klaus Jones.

Hey Kirk,

What is that black and white checkered nose board that Steve K. rode that is in so many pics? What are the details of that board?

Thanks,

Jim

Steve still has that board its up on cealing of his livingroom. I think its about 7’0’’ it has an asymetrical tail , very thin! maybe a 18,75 nose 22.50 wide and a 15’'tail.

howdy

i realize that i’m JOJ here as a newby at swaylock’s and as a hull rider so i’ll be as forthcoming as possible so to save us all my kookdom

i’m anticipating the release of “Displacement” a film by artists Matt Volla and the incredible Alex Kopps

New Image Art is having an exhibition of Alex’s new work this december - it’s worth peepin’ in person if you’re into art like i am - i’m a painter too (more of a cartoonist and a HUUUUGE R Griffin fan)

more to the point there is some incredible hull footage - and i mean RIPPING here in this “Displacement” trailer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2Jnuv7L7co

and it seems that whoever is doing that ripping is on the board being made in this next film clip… nice board but how big is it? there are some dimensions flashing on screen up there for a second and they LOOK to be

my reason for responding to this thread is that i am trying to track down Klaus Jones to have a board made such as the one in this set of grassroots films which are about to insight a more widespread feverish panic for custom hulls today. the logo on the board in the trailer looks like it might be the same one on the boards for sale at mollusk venice beach, they just sold 3 “Hulls” shaped by him and one of them was 6’2" - that sounds just about perfect to me! any information on connecting with KJ would be greatly appreciated, words fail. i left a message at the number mentioned above and have called Mollusk to get in touch with him…please, if anyone can help me make a connect i’d be more than stoked!

Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to all

surfing in displacement trailer is some original standouts(30 plus years ago), eg, steve k.(dirt). dan malloy and a. knost are two of the “new” crew seen in that trailer. siglo is around 6 feet long, maybe a bit less.collaboration between alex, steve and klaus…idea came from a cut out blank steve has that is about 40 years old(it is in siglo trailer next to finished siglo). best bet is to contact klaus via mollusk or order a liddle thru them…

Matt

thank you so much for the information! i knew that board was a micro stub. at first i felt lame wanting another person’s board but after reading so much about dimensions and theory it seems i am in the right place here at swaylock’s, and maybe it’ll increase my stoke in the water. yesterday i drove to ventura and picked up a 6’8 Liddle point breaker and i am white knuckling to get on it asap, i have a feeling that nature will provide us with some line ups soon enough - until then i’m on my skate trying not to re-hyper extend my left elbow - AGAIN!

man - one california day on top of my trip to the north shore has me so happy go lucky for the salt in the pacific i can’t deal with it at all here in los feliz right now much as i have come to love it. A Knost is a standout and a pleasure to watch as are the others in that trailer, i can’t wait to peep the entire flicker!

see you in the AM tide Matt, i truly am grateful to you for the info about siglo!

Miles

early tomorrow AM i’ll christen this craft, i can’t wait! it feels almost like Xmas
