Didn’t New Zealand shaper and Pipe charger Al Byrne (Byrning Spears) do some work in the '80’s with Rabbit and Kong on assymetrical shapes ? Effectively that’s what a “twisted” board is !But does a slightly deeper facet of the Vee on one rail count as twist ? Assymetries of rocker at the rail is an interesting direction.Trouble is the customer might think you don’t know what your doing unless you can explain how and why it works, and that Pro’s ride 'em too !!!
Greg, where on the blank was the twist for either Brewer’s blanks or the sailboard? Thanks, Rob Olliges
The Brewers were twisted more or less throughout and so was the Windsurf Hawaii. The sailboard was a vaccuum bagged divynicel board that probably twisted in the bag under pressure. The Brewers were Clarks first really modern surfboard blanks with flat decks and more or less modern rockers. They were shaped out of big blocks of foam and probably twisted in the glassing because the foam had been cut into so deeply.
I got a Takyama noserider with a twist in it for a steal. It’s magic for going backside, maybe the twist has something to do with it? Apparently the original owner left it on top of his car in the summer and it baked that way. It’s a really light board and the stringer can’t be but a quarter of an inch, maybe this was a factor in its warping? I wouldn’t reccomend trying to duplicate by this method!
my browser was storing old form info from an old post-sorry!!!
