Orange Conty Glassers

Hi all, I am obviously new here. I have had a great time browsing around your site and have found it an excellent source of info. To the point, I have been surfing 22 of my 30 years and have owned close to 100 boards, short and long. The next logical step is to shape my own. I am slowly gathering tools and have lined up a blank. I am planning on shaping a basic(?) 9 foot rounded pin single fin long board using templates made from boards I currently own. I am leary of glassing myself. Through experience, who should I get my board glassed by in Orange County? I am also curious about price. I am thinking sanded finish 6+6 x 6 for the first one with a single box. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks!

That would Orange County…CA

South County, Rancho Santa Margarita…I know, don’t ask.

South County, Rancho Santa Margarita…I know, don’t ask. …Kind of an inlander,ya? Me too! Makes you appreciate the beach, more…I know, I lived both life styles as a child, and now as an adult…Basham’s in San Clemente would be the closest to you.I guess, I need to LIST his business on the RESOURCE PAGE…Darn,I was just out there yesterday ,I should have asked Brad if he wanted his business listed?.. OTAY,Buhtweet! Just talked to Brad Basham on the phone and he gave me the approval to list his “stuff” on the resourses page.watch for it…and PLEASE!!!come back to Sway’s for your board building questions, answered here.Herb.

Okay, here’s what I did.I listed Basham’s Surfboard Supplies in the Swaylock’s classifieds under,“announcements”.Brad Basham doesn’t have a website to contact thru, therefore I couldn’t post a ,“resources” link without one.As it was I had to get creative!..GOOD LUCK…ALSO PLEASE FORWARD ANY OF YOUR BUILDING QUESTIONS HERE @ Swaylock’s.Brad and Chris deal with an experienced board building crowd, and is not really set-up to answer a bunch of novice questions. He will help guide you in the right direction, but with limited time he needs to focus on the business at hand.THANKYOU!..Herb.

basham’s is a great place to get it glassed. the guys in there are really cool (thats where i get my supplies). however i have seen some really good glassing at Kaysen (across the street from basham’s) and also at the Waterman’s Guild off of Dyer Road in Santa Ana (near the 55). however, nothing is cooler than glassing your first board yourself. i glassed the first board i shaped myself (about 8 months ago now) and it was an experience ill never forget. it was a lot of fun, a little messy, but definitely worth doing. i wouldnt worry about it too much, i only had 4 tiny tiny bubbles in my entire glass job (all from rail laps) as far was what to get it glassed with… i prefer heavy boards. get a 7.5-10oz volan cloth glassed board. it also looks cooler. by the way, im from newport beach. yeah orange county! -steve

I have been going back and forth with getting it glassed and trying it myself. I do like the idea of doing everything…Thanks for all of the response, any other tips are totally appreciated. (I grew up in Dana Point and lived the last 7 years in San Diego, this inland thing takes some getting used to.)
